has anyone figured out an alternative to opening the sim tray on an n5? the tool is so small, that i'm afraid to try anything else (paperclip, etc) in case i lose the tool.

and i hear replacements are hard to come by as well.

Replacements are as far as eBay and China. Most iPhone SIM adapter kits (for about 2 bucks, shipping included) come with one.

Or you could go to your carrier's store and see if they have a tool in their box of SIM adapters.

Or try Sears - see if they have a cheap Torx-1 screwdriver (that should be about the right size).

Or try a music store - you should be able to cut a guitar pick into about half a dozen tools.

(I think McGuiver just left the room.)

on the nexus 5? the hole in this phone is miniscule. an iphone tool does NOT work. not without damaging the phone. believe me, i tried, mcgyver. :)

I honestly don't have a proper solution for a replacement, but after I popped in the sim the tool went back in my phone box where it it'll stay til I either switch carriers or sell the device

A single staple.. That's right... A staple.. Snap one off somehow and use one end... Should fit right in.. Might have to nudge it and will be uncomfortable but it will work..

I did the same thing. I always keep the original box for all my phones, it's easy and pays off handsomely.

a toothpic :p yes i know. people think its blunt but the tip upto 2 mm is sharp enough. i am talking about the one from a supermarket that comes in a rounded plastic container.

Conversely, the Nexus 5 sim tray tool may be very thin but it's quite strong and works well on an iPhone
