N64oid=JUNK

There's already a large thread about this topic. Also another one exactly like this ranting about it being a "scam". No need for a third.

N64oid is not a scam. Nor is it junk. It is an early build of an N64 emulator. Matter of fact, Yongzh makes it very clear in his Market description that N64oid is still a work in progress. Yongzh has a reputation for improving his emulators over time. Rather than complaining, just shoot Yongzh an email detailing your specific issues. He actually responds to emails. Give it a shot.

Some things lag, but that's expected. This is the first N64 emulator on Android and very hard to get working apparently. Smash Bros, Mario 64, Pokemon Stadium, Golden eye all work decently on my Fascinate. Hopefully it becomes smooth in within a couple of months :)

Just like something better than gensoid and snesoid and all the other ones made by yongzh right?

n64oid works great on my Droid X. Runs plenty of games perfectly. It gets patched almost daily it seems.

I was going to point this out as well. It is not like the PSX4Droid app, where it is the only app the developer has (even though the PS emulator may not be at everyones standards, it is something Zod is constantly updating as well). Yongzh has made quite a few other emulators and is constantly updating them. The N64 emulator will take more time to perfect as it is a bit more complicated than the standard NES or GBA emulator.

On top of that, as someone also stated, this is what, the third or fourth thread on the exact same topic?

Ouch, this is a great thread to find people you want to add to your ignore list. "Waaaah I can't do X waaaaah scam!!!", yeah no thanks fella.

I actually don't think he is scamming anyone...I mean sure he could have waited to release it until he fixed some of the code, but to call him a scammer is just wrong I think. And also didn't he just make a small update the 1st of this month; which I think proves that he is indeed working on it.

The first few days it was out he made updates each and every day. It's been a bit since the last, but I e-mailed him asking about Battle Tanx and he told me thanks for the information and he'd work on it. He also said just to e-mail him with any game problems so he's aware of them and will try to fix them.

Spoke with the dev.

Due to complaints by people that the app was not up to par yet he has taken it off the market for the next couple of months until it can be perfected.

Personally I was hoping to grab the updates as we go along but because a few jerks complained now everyone has to wait with the weak version for 2-3 months or possibly more before getting any updates.

People like the OP here ruined it for all of us.

Yea, it sucks that a few people can ruin it for everyone, but I don't blame the devs choice...

I mean, he worked hard on that and at the rate it was going it would have likely become a 1-2 star app even though it is an awesome app

So I suppose trying to fight Queen Gohma on my Galaxy Tab will have to wait a bit...

Well, hopefully by then I can afford one of the new tablets out there...

I'm with you. This dev has a history of producing consistantly solid products, and yet people have been demonizing him since day one for not immediately making fixes for whatever their favorite game happens to be. He could make Mario, Zelda, and Goldeneye work perfectly, and someone who loves Wrestlemania2000 will accuse him of stealing their money. It's sad, it's petty, and it kills a developer's motivation. Bitching to a big company might be the only way to get their attention, but when you're dealing with a single person, it's not only unnecessary, but it's detrimental to improving the product.

And, right now, I can guarantee NO games will work with something you just can't get anymore :(

Emailing the dev with bugs is one thing, bitching about a single game not working (While hundreds of others are working fine) is another thing altogether.

Hopefully, he gets some of the major bugs fixed, and gets it back on the market.

Any word on if those who have already purchased it will be able to download again without paying. I know he can not release a free app and then change it to paid app, will he be able to release it as the same app he previously released so those who purchased it will not have to pay again. If not it will not fair well for him, just like the PSX4Droid fiasco.

It is sad a dev has to pull a product because he release a work in progress and documents that not all games will work on it and the end user would be more than willing to rate the product low because they want a certian game to work.

Just e-mailed him asking about that. I'll get back to you guys when I get a a response. It really is a shame that a few whiners ruined it for all of us. Luckily I still have it installed, but I mean something (and it ran plenty of games) is better than nothing at all.

It's people like the OP that made him remove the app from the market. Or so some suggest. I was told he pulled the app cause people kept complaining

I don't understand why people are complaining so much. These aren't his games that were designed to run on Android. These are somebody else's games running on an emulation of a closed platform.

We are complaining bc he is known for making good emulators of our favorite systems and working out all the bugs and updating the emulators regularly and now because a few people he was more then forced to take it down

I was referring to the OP and those like him, the people who made him take it down.

While I don't agree with the aggressive nature of the OP, he has a very good point. I mean, let's look at the facts:

- this is quite an expensive app compared to other emulators
- it's barely compatible with most roms
- the updates have been slow and hardly fix anything except a few games

Seriously, why was this released at all? Maybe in a few months when it's a capable emulator, it might have earned its place in the market as payware, but right now it doesn't deserve the name "N64 emulator" when it only emulates a few N64 games. It's indeed a lot like the PSX4droid emulator. The epse emulator is BRILLIANT compared to that and I hope that N64 gets a proper emulator as well some day.

The right approach, would have been to have released it as a BETA for FREE and then, after a few updates and feedback from users, releasing a paid version once it can run most games.

Comments like these sometimes make me wonder if people understand how software works. I actually spent about an entire month on porting mupen t o Android only to get stuck at the very end. I'm interested as to how he solved this actually. :)

N64oid is a port of an existing emulator that is still heavily in development. Porting such a piece of software is _HARD_, very few people can do it and it requires detailed domain knowledge. Add to that that the emulator itself is still buggy and there is the reason why the software is still not optimal.

I have an NDS emulator running now on Android that runs a couple of games, but I'm seriously doubting to release it when I see the amount of people crying over this. It doesn't have audio either, because that would be too heavy for the current gen 1ghz phones (need to try Tegra2 though) Good software takes a lot of time to get right. A lot of people are dedicated, but there are also just so many hours in a day and we can't fix everything.

Considering I can do mobile contract work at a decent rate there needs to be an incentive for me to work on it as well. The initial amount of work required to get it running in a releasable form is probably around 2-4months. We all need to eat. :)

You make some good points, but the fact is he should have never made it a paid app in the first place if he knew there were so many things wrong with it. It should've been called N64oid Aplha and labeled as free to test and give feedback. I don't feel like I wasted $6 on it...I've seen movies that I paid $10 for that gave me less entertainment than this half-working emulator.

Also just kind of curious, how are you working with the NDS having two screens on just one? :)
