Root Nandroid Questions!

I'm planning on installing that Cyanbread themed Rom, and I wanna know what I need to restore in Cwm through Nandroid Advanced Restore to get all my apps back and everything. Also; Is the Internal Memory backed up at all or deleted upon installation of a rom? I'd like to not lose anything on the internal or external sd card. Annndd do I really need to wipe the dalvik cache? I have quite a few app patches that are applied through the dalvik and I would prefer to not wipe that. I mainly need to know what exactly is backed up in Nandroid, because I don't wanna lose my files at all, and I wanna keep my apps and all my current settings of my phone.

I mainly need to know what exactly is backed up in Nandroid.

EDIT: Literally everything stored directly on the phone itself.

Remember, there is also an FAQ-Guide that not only answers this, but other new threads that have popped up by others as well. Typically, the answers can be found within it, having already been posted elsewhere and collected there.

No, not literally everything. Our phone has like 19 partitions. The nandroid backup will backup the boot, recovery, cache, data, and system ones. Boot is the kernel that runs under normal operation along with its ramdisk. Recovery is the kernel and ramdisk that run while in recovery mode. System contains a bunch of stuff from shared libraries, programs, apps, boot animation, wifi drivers, etc. The stuff in /system is never meant to be modified by the user. Data contains user data. It has all the settings and apps you download.

When you restore a backup, if it still contains the recovery partition, then it is quite possible to restore an old version of recovery right over top of a new one.

What is not contained in the nandroid backup? Your internal and external SD cards aren't. There are 2 bootloaders, a fota partition, mbr, ebr, adsp, mpt, and a few more that you should actually never know existed. These are the ones that work behind the scenes and really only get noticed if they aren't working right.

Thanks GiantPune! Soo if I install a rom, and format Dats and Cache, will it also format my internal and external sd card then?

no a rom wont effect either but in the internal it will delete the /sdcard/Android/data/ directory wich just deletes your app data

And can't I just copy that to my external temporarily then place it back there after I flash it and stuff?

I am successful. Only problem is that for some reason the dalvik cache is cleared after every reboot and the patches I have on certain apps have to be reapplied.

Hi all...
I can't seem to find the actual link (where to go) to download the NANDROID backup. I know I've seen it on the forum before, but don't remember where, and can't find it in forum searches. Could one of you post it again here or direct me to where it is in the forum?

Thanks in advance!

A nandroid is something you make yourself of your own install. Under cwm go to backup and restore. Backing up will create the nandroid which is a full backup of your currently installed rom which can be restored later.

Or did I misunderstand your question

Ahhh ok, that's what I wasn't getting. I thought nandroid was a seperate app that you download and install, like poot, ministro, etc.... I'm a total noob at this...
Thanks!
