Nasty SMS bug?

I haven't had any problems and neither does any of my Android toting friends.

I'm of the opinion an sms-widget or other sms related app is the culprit (didn't sms-popup used to wreak havoc for a while?), causing a conflict with the stock app. I've yet to see it myself, but the rarity and inconsistency of it leads me to think so. I don't think anybody's yet nailed the common link between those who experience it.
