native mail verses K9 and others???

Putty

I am doing what I can to conserve battery. I just got my S3 last night. I installed K9 because that is what I used on my previous Droids. I checked my battery info this morning and K9 is like 19%. I have it checking every 10 mins for new mail. Any of you know if the native app is push and does it draw off the battery as much?

Thanks!

I use enhanced email and quite a lot this morning and it has used 8.9% in 2 1/2 Hours but i have it set to 30 minutes and have 3 email accounts in it sooo..

edit : in the last 4hrs enhanced email used 2.1% , I have not used it much in this time

I use K9, and I find it has very little drain on the battery (Three email accounts). I have it set to push though as that uses less battery than pull.

Putty, here is your answer.

Yes, you can use the native Mail application for push email. It is really extremely easy. This is the step-by-step process:

1. Go to phone Settings.

2. Go to Accounts and Synch.

3. Select Add Account.

4. On the screen that shows up, select Email.

5. On the next screen write your email account (eg. johndoe@gmail.com) and your password.

6. Click on Manual Setup (DO NOT CLICK ON NEXT).

7. On the next screen choose Microsoft Exchange Active Synch (yes, this is the correct one, do not be surprized!).

8. On the field Domain\user name, make sure that you have your complete email address, preceded by a \ (ie. \johndoe@gmail.com).

9. Your password should also be entered (it is done automatically, but if it is not, add it yourself).

10. In the field Exchange Server use m.google.com (check with other email providers what you shoud use - I use a gmail based email service (gmail apps) so I can not help you here, but I am sure that it is easy to find out).

11. Check Use Secure Connection and uncheck Use Client Certificate.

12. Click Next and OK if an information box pops up.

13. Change the Account options as desired and click Next.

You are all set. It works like a charm for Gmail accounts, you should make sure it works also for other services / email providers.

Good luck!

Depends who your email client is. If you use Gmail or Hotmail/Live, use their apps...they are PUSH so less drain on your battery. Hotmail app even has quiet hours which is nice. I think Yahoo! app may be PUSH as well, but unsure.
