Navigation App

Has anyone else lost the Navigation App? I just noticed a gap on one of my homescreens and realised it's the Navigation app that has disappeared.

I know you can do this through google maps, but I preferred the Navigation app. I can't see it on google play to download it again.

If you want the shortcut back, do this:

Main Menu > Settings > Apps > All > Maps > Uninstall Updates
Yes, that's what I did as well.

The "update" to Google Maps sucks big-time, with the loss of separate Navigation, zoom buttons, scale bar, easy offline caching, Latitude, My Maps, tape measure... And it adds, well, nothing. Take a look at the reviews for Maps in Google Play - just about everyone is slagging the update off (rightfully in my opinion). I really can't imagine what Google are playing at in releasing this retrograde version.

I gather that there's a new firmware update due in the next few weeks. I imagine that it will ship with the latest version of Maps :-( which will remove the possibility of reverting to the "good" version of Maps by uninstalling updates.

I recommend that anyone that doesn't like the latest version should waste no time, and use Titanium, My Backup Pro, Astro etc to backup the good version, so it can be restored after updating the firmware.

You are likely correct Fishyweb, any updates from this point on will likely contain the latest version of this app and once this is update this way there will be no way of rolling back. Please also be aware that some firmware versions may not let you uninstall and as such a backup of the app will not always be able to be installed over this one due to it being an older version, but we will have to wait and see.

I was just about to say what Sam said, even if you back up an older version of the app, you may not be able to restore it due to it being upset than the one supplied.

Only way would be root access.

I did that too, keep forgetting and doing update all apps, then having to sort, remember now though to stop the Maps update

Lost the traffic widget which was great and used daily, new android version is even worse than the iOS (have one for work) Google or apple maps apps, which is a travesty. Needs sorting!

Great option though got to pick between JB update or Maps, fingers crossed we can still get back to the 4.0 version of Maps?

I installed the latest JB update onto my SXS the other day, and am pleased to say that it included v6 of Maps rather than the newer, degraded v7. Well done, Sony :-)
