nds4droid now available

the phone reboot when the emulator load the rom (pokemon platinum Europe version)(reboot on "Preparing Rom") I'm on CM7-galaxy s

I look forward to seeing the continuation of your work

Sorry for my bad english

Ikari, thank you for the great effort in this emulator, i know this is probably a very difficult thing to achieve. so keep up the good work

in your last version, 1.1.2 i felt a little bit of performance improvement on the Galaxy S, but still not playable speed.
and like the post above me said, when trying to load pokemon platinum (that you claimed works) you get booted to the rom selection screen after about 15 seconds.

tried also with USA version and poke'mon heartgold. same result.

looking forward to see more from this project!
btw, in which programming language are you writing this?

Yeah I had a similar problem where I bought this and tried to load Pokemon White only to have it return to that screen after a short pause.

Someone should really try this on optimus 2x or devices with tegra 2 because i think it's more of a GPU case then CPU although both are involved. Having a better GPU might increase the speed?

@falchion What phone/android version are you using?

Notter, is it only for the pokemon games? I took the pictures with my phone so I know they work -- trying to fix the issue with others. :)

Also, is it after the preparing rom menu or before?

I've always been under the impression an emulator runs by creating a "virtual machine" and bypasses the gpu completely

Tegra 2's GPU is not so strong, it's more or less comparable with PowerVR SGX540 from Galaxy S. However, most emus doesn't use GPU at all, so faster CPU of Tegra 2 should really help.

I am sorry but you are dead wrong here.
First those devices are running at 1Ghz which unless the program is well optimized for dual cores is not going to compare to my phone running 1.5Ghz or someone elses here running 1.7Ghz.
Second the emulator, unless they do some sort of OpenGL plug in, is going to be running on CPU power. Also for your information the all mighty Tegra 2 scores 74 fps in Neocore benchmark while my Galaxy S scores 64fps so 10 fps difference is not going to make this emulator fly even if it was a GPU thing like you thought which is not.
That 10fps difference in Neocore might translate into 1fps on this super slow emu right now. The only hope for this is some miracle coding optimization or a hard to create open gl plug in.

I'm interested, but waiting to hear how well it runs on the Galaxy Tab or the Droid X. Preferrably the Galaxy Tab though.

Anyone still having issues after the update that I just pushed?

Edit: If you're still having issues with the screen flipping back to the rom view after the preparing rom menu then this might be caused by having not enough ram available. Can you try rebooting your phone?

@AmneonX I'll upload a youtube vid in the next couple of days

I've tried running the heartgold and soul silver pokemon games with no luck. Any chance on them being possible anytime soon? It was said earlier that some of the newer games are too diffucult to emulate, so I was wondering if these were in that catagory. Also I've had the same deal with the new golden sun game.

Just bought\downloaded\installed it.

Plants vs. Zombies : Works - Veryyy slow
Sonic Colors : Works - Also, veryyy slow
COD Black Ops : Works - but again, verryyyy slow

I'll try to post some more, once I've played with it for a bit...

How about rhythm heaven? I don't think that's a graphically intensive game.

Edit: lol. I forgot he said there's no sound yet. It'll be dumb to try a music game on an emu without sound. Doh!

It's too slow to really do anything. Uninstalled it...
It looks pretty good, it just needs to be faster. I honestly don't care about sound, especially if it will improve the emulator in the future - but as of now, it still needs some work. (I am no dev, so I can't really give any specifics)

btw, i tried this on the galaxy tab. can't get past the TOUCH THE SCREEN TO START part.

poked my tab a million times.

and the load up is SO incredibly slow that i thought it actually wasn't working.

Hey, sorry for taking time to answer

I've now just tested version 1.1.4
again with poke'mon platinum and heartgold and still it boots back to rom selection screen, even if i restart my phone (Galaxy S)

i will test pearl next.

EDIT: tried Pearl, and it did work! obviously not smoothly, but it's still very cool to see that
Platinum still boots up to rom selection, and it's not a ram issue, at least i don't think so.
although it's worth mentioning that pearl rom is like 17MB and platinum is like 60+MB and heartgold is 120+MB

Yup tested on my gtablet too. Touchscreen doesn't work. This emu would be so good on a tablet because of the big screen. :(

By the way Ikari,
i know the GUI right now is as simple as it gets
but i think you could easily make it just a bit easier on the eyes if you'll give it some opacity.
it's something i noticed lots of other games use so their controls won't obstruct the view.

Alright i just tested Ver 1.2
first thing i noticed was that you you've listed the opacity change :)

as for games,
i noticed a noticeable improvement in the star wars game
and i would say that it's gotten much closer to running at a decent speed
a very big improvement from only a week ago!

than i tried some poke'mon games
pearl showed no improvement
platinum and heartgold booted me back to rom selection after "preparing rom" for a short while.

i tried this under the "experimental mode"
i wonder what that mode actually does though..

anyways, if you'd like some more little advice for the GUI
i would change it to give the user some indication that the button he pressed is responding.
like, when the button is pressed, you change it's opacity back to 100% and give it a darker tone.

and for the button that hides all the GUI, maybe you could change it so that the left phone button will do that function.
i know it's used not to show you the "save game", so maybe it will show you the save game only when you hold it for 1-2 sec.
this will remove a GUI element (we want to have as as little as we can of those) and give a more natural flow of using the feature, since right now it's kinda hard to get to that button quickly.
and finally, it will truly hide all UI element.

i hope this gives you some ideas or you'll implement some of mine :)
i'm a WPF developer, i do a lot of GUI and this is my 2 cents, heh
