Need 4G LTE phone by July 7th Verizon.

I have been told numerous times that after July 7th if I upgrade to a 4G phone I would get snagged with a data tier plan. No bueno.
So I now know the Tier Data plan is in effect on July 7th. I'm due for upgrade July 6th. I really don't any of the 4g phone verizon has out right now. I would love to wait for the Function (SGSII) or Bionic or Atrix. I'm hoping I can play my cards right and get something real quick and use the 2week policy and hope to snag the Function that comes out in July (I believe). So forum, what phone should I get temporarily?

Now I've heard that unlimited data is exactly that. Regardless of 3G, 4G, or 8G.

However I hope it works out for you. I was thinking about trying to get the Bionic but ive still got a year on my contract.

If you have an Android phone, then you should be grandfathered in as long as you get the plan now. I'm not going to take the chance with the 14 day return policy, so I'll have to get tiered in.

Hey guys, I just spoke with my brother who took his webinar training w/Verizon on the tiered data plan changes. He knew I was looking for wording about existing customers going from 3G to 4G. He confirmed with me that in his webinar, that it did specifically say that existing 3G customers that purchase a 4G phone AFTER July 7th, would still be grandfathered in on the unlimited data packages.

So no need to rush out on the 6th (like I was going to do) to purchase either the Thunderbolt, Revolution, or Charge. We can now wait on the Bionic.

I did ask him to send me a screenshot for proof to everyone on the boards, but he told me no because he's chicken S#%t and scared to do that kind of thing. So, we'll have to take my brother's street creds on this one.

He also wanted to tell me a data fact pointed out in his training: that said 96% of 3G customers use less than 2GB of data...and that 91% of 4G customers are using less than 2GB of data.

Hey, so it seems pretty clear now that we can be on a 3G plan and then after the 7th we can still move freely to an unlimited 4G plan, HOWEVER, one thing that doesn't seem to have been touched on is: will the 4G phones' plan be at the same rate that we were grandfathered in while we had 3G, ($29.99/mo.)?

Nowhere have I seen anything that confirms the price will still be the same as the 3G plans now. And yes, I do know that right now the 3G and 4G plans are the same, and at the same rate, but after the 7th...

I'd like to hear confirmation that we can go to unlimited 4G and still be paying $29.99/mo.

Really? Don't you think you are reading a little too much into the situation. "Perhaps grandfathered means a higher rate...., perhaps 3g won't convert to 4g.... perhaps the world will end before I ever get to enjoy 4g serivce - what can I do then???"

Similar situation -- I'm currently with AT&T (grandfathered unlimited data) and considering a switch to Verizon. I'm not really a fan of the current Verizon 4G phone lineup, though I wouldn't mind the Samsung Charge.

Here's my question: if I make the move now, open a new account with Verizon and obtain unlimited data with a new Charge, and one of the new Verizon phones (Samsung Galaxy, Motorola Bionic, etc.) drops within my 14-day return period, will I be able to return the Charge, pick up the new phone, and retain the unlimited data plan? Or will they force me to "re-open" a new account (post-July 7) and go with a tiered plan? Thoughts?

I have a feeling that we won't see any of the new phones within that 14-day window (by design) but I figure it's worth asking.

You'll be fine to swap out phones during the 14 day period. ou can also go to Costco and get a phone with a 90 day return policy instead.

Best Buy is 30 days, but dam...if you've got a local Costco, I would go that route for sure!

I went into two Costco's today and asked them about this. They said that they follow Verizon's guidelines with returns and refunds. They told me that there is a 14 day return, refund, or exchange window. After that, Costco will only do a refund up to 30 days from purchase, but you are still liable for your contract (which can only be cancelled within the 14 days). The 90 day return is only for returning a defective item for another item of the same.

I told them that I've read that the Thunderbolt has been having problems and that it seems to be a mixed bag. I asked if I were to get the Thunderbolt and in 45 days if I am having problems could I exchange it for the Charge or Revo? They both said no, that the 90 return is for the same item only and that they will not refund or exchange the phone.

I made a thread asking about this in the lounge, but I'm confused now.

I checked with Verizon and they told me that 3G is grandfathered to 3G and 4G is grandfathered to 4G. A move from 3G to 4G would result in a plan change due to things that need to be added to the account.

Ended up going to Costco to get the Charge and was told the same thing. I was told, however, that I could exchange or return the phone within 90 days for another.

Got my Charge at Costco. Was told twice by 2 different Costco employees that you can trade for a different phone in 90 days if you want to for ANY reason.

BTW, the Charge so far has been a nice phone. Not perfect, but I'm happy with it.

Here is the Costco Return Policy. It specifically lists cell phones as an item that must be returned within 90 days for a full refund. Of course that is for the phone only, if you want to cancel your Verizon Wireless contract, then you must do so within the time frame that Verizon has spelled out.

Thanks guys, I called Costco's cell phone website, which is handled by Wireless Advocates (the ones who sell the phones under Costco) and talked with them. They told me that it is 90 days to return or exchange the phone and didn't know why I would be told something different. The rep told me to read this and this to clear it up and said that it is Costco's policy that they must contractually follow. I ordered the TBolt online and printed everything out. Hope I don't need to use it, but that is why you get it from Costco for the return/exchange period.
