Need a good text notification App

[Chillione]

Hi,
Im looking for a good SMS notification app. Have tried SMS Pro and Handcent and they seem ok but I want an app which will show me if ive missed text notifications with a little number on the app icon...however I dont want the notification to open up the text message, which these seem to do.

Previous phones ive had have just added a number to the default text icon, eg a little 2 or 3 on the default android text app. However my Motorola seems to flash up the message at the top of the notification area and then disappears. However, it dooes not give me any indication that I have missed a text message.
Hope that makes sense!

I'm not sure what phone or which version of Android you're on but on Jelly Bean you can go to Settings > Status Bar > Show Notification Count.

Not sure if that will do what you want but I get the tiny numbers on the icons for email, texts, gmail, etc.
