OK I got a different NON-Android type problem, a friend gave a a locked/password protected (they forgot it) iphone 3.
So, I d/led a proggie called Snowbreeze to restore/reset it, only to find out that the phone is not an iphone 3 it is a iphone 4! this is of course AFTER I loaded ipsw for a iphone3(g).
so beings i know sh!t about iphones (or anything apple for that matter) i need to reset this iphone4. even with the wrong ipsw it still shows a bat charging, and occasionally will start up and say password protected. but most of the time when i try to dfu it locks up and wont even show the bat charging.
I understand this is may not be Phandroids's area of expertise, so can anyone point me to a "hackers" iphone site, and not a "boy scout" site where they will say "oh send it off to apple" thats just like saying bend over and put some apple butter on your a$$!!!
thanks eto
Go here:
www.iphoneforums.net and sign-up if you like, or not. I suggest that given your lack of knowledge, you join the forums and then ask for help if you need it.
Click on the "forums" section, scroll down and look for the "Hacking" section and read your little heart out. Learn a little more about the process.
When you used Snowbreeze, did you do anything about your baseband? SB lets you preserve your BB which is important if you want to upgrade iOS. If you do not know what "preserve your baseband" means, read a little more.
Look for and read the tutorials. I guarantee you can trust the information on this specific site.
Make sure you understand how to place your device into DFU mode. This lets you install the firmware files. If you used Snowbreeze properly, you will likely remember the sequence of buttons you had to presse and for how long.
Understand how to recognize if your unit is in DFU or you will waste time trying to install firmware. Your device must be in DFU, so learn how to do this.
You will also require the .ispw files for your specific iPhone. You go to Settings then About phone (standard iPhone settings app) and make a note of both your baseband and specific version of iOS. Never EVER use the wrong firmware. Never, ever, ever.
You can use any number of jailbreaking programs. For example, Snowbreeze, Green Poison, Limera1n, and RedSn0w.
The hacking section will walk you through the process step-by-step; using well written tutorials. I see few probems if you use the proper firmware, pay attention to your baseband, follow the instructions and spend an hour learning what you are doing.
So, see wat baseband you have and write it down.
See which firmware you have and search for the file on the web. Note that these files sometimes come from sites you may not choose to trust. Look long enough and the files will be located on Apple's servers. Use those.

iClarified - iPhone - Where To Download iPhone Firmware Files From
You can DL the proper firmware as well as Snowbreeze from the above site. You can trust iClarified. Note that the firmware files are large.
So, you now have a charged iPhone, your cable, Snowbreeze for your device, your firmware files. Make sure iTunes is instaled.
Extract Snowbreeze and read the readme file. Start the program and simply follow the directions. Do exactly what it says. Pay attention to the timers; tey will help you prepare your iPhone for the "repair."
Good luck, it is not that hard.
