need advice on where to find cheap android phone so i can wait after july 7th

as of right now all i have is a feature phone and im wanting to get grandfathered in the unlimited data before july 7th. the problem im having is that im really wanting to wait till the bionic comes out but it looks like it wont come out till after the return period. any suggestions on where i can find a real cheap android phone to pass the time.

You can up your data to unlimited on your feature phone, that *should* grandfather you. My friend just did this and the rep who she spoke with said that would indeed be the case. I am actually lending her a Droid I had around for backup to use until the Bionic comes out, she wants one so. lol. But, in theory, you don't have to have a smartphone for the unlimited data/grandfathering bypassing the evil tiered data conundrum.
You can probably pick up a pretty cheap Eris or Droid these days...check the classifieds or ebay/craigslist.

More on Verizon

I'm no too surprised, no one really knows for sure yet. There are going to be a lot of angry folks out there if the reps are telling/allowing people to up their data on feature phones for no reason...it's not going to be pretty!

At this point, I think you'll be limited to Craigslist or some other local method to buy used phone.

You could buy on ebay, but I doubt you would have the phone in your hands by the July 7th deadline - especially with the holiday weekend.

I would either go pick up a refurb from VW or BB, or buy used on CL or Ebay. You better hope it ships and arrives before the 7th though...if not, you might want to request from the seller the ESN so you could go ahead and activate it on the 6th in case it doesn't arrive in time.

I'm trying to figure out what date applies if I order new service and a Thunderbolt from Amazon Wireless. I got all the way to the "Place Order" page and it says "estimated delivery date: 7/7/2011." That would be too late to get the unlimited data locked in, right? Or does the plan go into effect when I click the Place Order button?

I'd do it from a Verizon store or the Verizon web site, but the Thunderbolt is only $99 at Amazon.

Not sure. I ended up going through Wirefly, as they had overnight shipping for $20. My Samsung Charge came to $150, still a great deal. And if they don't ship the phone till the 5th, you will still get it on the 6th.

Why don't you just pay extra for faster shipping to get it sooner?

Thanks for the Wirefly suggestion. I went there and ordered the Thunderbolt for $129. But it hung on processing the order. Maybe Verizon was slow to approve me or something. Meantime it occurred to check Craigslist, since I'd really rather just buy the phone than have a contract. Turns out there are three locally, each offered for $350. So I canceled the Wirefly order and tomorrow I'll go to a Verizon store and let them get me signed up without a phone, then buy one on Craigslist.

Well, that didn't work. Apparently I have to much money to qualify for a Verizon phone. But since one of my assets is several thousand shares of Verizon stock I'll wait until Tuesday and call Verizon shareholder services. Maybe they can figure out a way to get me a Verizon account. If not, then I'll just stick with T-Mobile and forget about Verizon.
