Root Need Camera.apk

JBAndroid

Newbie
Okay so I was very proud of myself for doing all kinds of research and figuring out how to successfully root my huawei ascend android 2.2. Downloaded titanium backup successfully as well and began playing around with it. I had a camera 1.3 and camera 2.2 so like a few others, I figured I didn't need the 1.3 one. So I did a backup, and then uninstalled it, of course, come to find out I need it. Tried to restore thru titu, however after 4 days none of the attempts have been successful. I know it's in the "handy download links" thread, however I already downloaded the file posted there and I receive error there is a problem parsing the package, so I beg, can someone post a camera.apk & camera.odex (I've learned you need both) download link (maybe thru something other than mediafire) or maybe email them to me even, not sure if that is the issue but at this point... I have to think of every possible aspect.

Move the app with a root explorer to system/app if you already have the files.
You can't just try installing it like any other app.
When its fixed make a cwm backup.

OR

install cwm
Backup your system
Instal playfulmod
Use cwm advanced restore to restore data only.

You will be on playfulmod and have all your apps contacts etc and a working camera (yay!)

I currently have the camera.apk in system/app (however I don't have the camera.odex). When I click on camera.apk it brings up an option to install, when I click install I receive an error about parsing the package, which is why I believe to fix it I need a different one, and probably also need the camera.odex as well.

You shouldn't have to click it at all... once its in that folder its installed.

I can't help anymore than my suggestion to do the playfulmod flash I described above.

I know it SHOULD be installed once it's in that folder, however I don't have the icon in my app draw, when I press the camera button on the side of my phone it doesn't do anything, and when I go thru gallery it doesn't work either. Plus I don't have the camera.odex. And your suggestion is great except I can't do that either because I don't have access to a computer. So, thank you for your suggestions however, they do not apply to/solve my issue. I'm pretty sure I just need someone to post or email me the camera.apk and camera.odex..

Please someone anyone with a huawei ascend m860 post or email me the camera.apk and camera.odex. I really don't want to do a "factory data reset", and heck I don't even know if that would solve the issue, but without being able to download or retrieve these files that is the only thing I can think to do. someone please help. and Thank you, in advance.

A factory reset won't fix it. It can't replace anything you've removed. You would have to use the flash back to stock method or flash a different ROM. You can flash CM7 without a computer.

That's what I figured, plus I didn't really wanna do the factory reset anyway. I've looked at the different roms and that process, but my phone won't download .zip(s), do you know a way to make it download them?

You have a huawei ascend right? Could you post the two files or email them to me?

I bolonger have an ascend or any files other than metroff and cm7 from almost a year ago...
Use dolphin browser to download zip files. Stock browser will say some BS about unsupported file types but dolphin works fine

I downloaded an app called download all files and was able to get them. But I actually have a few questions, maybe you could help me.
Ok, first will this combo (cm7.2 (9/13/2011) and gapps-gb (06/13/2011)) work good together?
2. Is cwm 3.0.0.5 or cwm 5.0.2.3 more highly recommended?
3. Does the sd card have to be blank? I have stuff I don't wanna lose and have no access to comp to do partition thingy. I can format my hubby's card and use it, but does the sd card I use to complete flash have to stay in the phone after it's done?

Thanks for all your help! Greatly appreciate it!

Those files should work fine. That's the gapps I used, can't even remember which CM7 I have. Without a computer, the only way to flash CWM is through ROM Manager, so you'll have to use 3.0.0.5. To get the most from CM7, you need to partition the sd card, (through ROM Manager/CWM recovery), which will erase it. (you need the partition for DT's apps 2sd to work). If it's just some pictures you want to save, you could upload them to Dropbox, then download them back to your phone after you get everything set up. Or maybe send them via Bluetooth from your husbands phone. It's a pain, I know, but without a computer you have to be creative. I still have my Ascend, (retired) but I honestly wouldn't know how to pull those apk's out of the ROM and send them to you. You are being smart by asking your questions ahead of time. (I saw your other post as well) Good luck!

I was unaware of the lack of PC.....

Mash- use root explarer to copy files to an SD card and email or upload.
Works for most system apps and files ;)

My ascend has a new home with a friend so I can't get anything off of it.

You should be able to install CWM RECOVERY 3.0.2.8 w/o a computer.
Check out SHINY SIDE'S older posts in the ASCEND forum,he once posted a way to flash any version of CWM RECOVERY without a computer. It's a bit tricky, only for the number of steps that are involved, but,if you follow them exactly as posted, you should be able to install CWM 3.0.2.8

BTW,I remember this only because it was immediately after I posted that you cannot flash a recovery without a computer that his post showed how it can be done.
