Need clarification on some things

I have an Optimus V and it's feeling pretty slow so I am looking from an upgrade.

Here are my questions if anyone can answer them it would be great.

Is the exhibit 2 going to be a significant upgrade?

How does the exhibit 2 compare to the galaxy player 5.0. We have one of those too so it's a good point of reference for me.

I want to get the exclusive 30 dollar walmart plan. I thought it was 30 bucks for unlimited data and 100 minutes with the first 5GB at 4G. First is this true or am I reading something wrong? I thought that was what the plan was but I went to walmart and they had a sign saying 30 bucks for unlimited data and only the first 100 MB at 4G. Also if 4G is not available where I am at will it work at 3G or go back to 2G?

If anyone knows the answers to these questions thanks! This stuff is confusing especially when the people in the store know less than I do about it!

I upgraded from an Optimus V and yes, it is a significant upgrade, at least in my opinion. I have no idea about the galaxy player, I've never used one.

The $30 plan does give you 5gb at 4G.
I'm pretty sure it will still run on 3G, but I can't be 100% on that.

One other odd thing I read online was people saying tmobile won't let you connect to an https site on their network is that true?

Thanks for the info.

My experience with data so far has been great. most of the places i go have 4g but the phone does go down to 2g(edge) when its not available. i had metropcs before and in my opinion tmobile's 2g is better than metros 3g anyday

I had the V and loved it. had absolutely no problems with it except those caused by crappy VM service. I have no regrets since going to TMobile Exhibit $30 4G plan even though I was grandfathered in at Virgins $25 rate. the Exhibit II is better than the V..much more storage a faster processor and able to run Flash. just root and get rid of all the bloatware and you wont look back. The only problem that some users have experienced is some texting coming back saying "failed to send" but they eventually get to the other party on the receiving end, so you really dont need to resend, at least from my own experience.

That is not an issue with the phone. That is an issue with the carrier. It usually happens when the signal (voice & text connection, not data) is low.

This happens all the time on VM.

I bought the exhibit today the walmart I went to had a guy that knew about the 5gb plan. It is way faster than the Optimus I can't speak to the network speeds yet but the device is way faster.

There is way too much crap installed on this thing I don't know if I wanna root to get rid of it I am too afraid of bricking the phone :-)

another annoyance is it looks like some of the apps like the sms app are not the Google one. On the Optimus all of that stuff was the stock Google app. I prefer the look of the Google sms app to the one included on here. I can't get it off the Android market can I? I also like the lock screen on the Optimus better, I like that I could swipe on the lock screen to mute all. With this device I need to unlock it then pull down the menu from the top and click the mute button.

I was really worried about rooting the first time too, but it really is nothing as long as you follow the directions, just don't delete ANYTHING that you aren't 100% sure can be deleted without a problem. Too many people delete things that they don't even know what they are.

I HIGHLY suggest you just pay the money for the paid version of Titanium Backup and freeze the bloatware instead of deleting it.

The OV has froyo, this has gingerbread, so there are going to be differences in some stuff.

I would pay the $30 for that plan if it were a "use it til it's gone" thing rather than running out at the end of the month. Because the way I use this device, there's no way I'd ever use that many minutes/GB in a month.

It's pretty much the cheapest way to go if you want a half way decent phone at least. Any "use until it's gone" plans are all junky phones.

I already have the Exhibit II of course, so I have a conundrum. There's good public/cable wifi everywhere around me.... except the area where I work, where it is lacking. So that $30/month plan is quite tempting. Or would be if I imagined myself using anywhere near that much data.

I downloaded titanium back up I didn't buy the pro one yet you have to root the phone to use this it looks like. How did you root the phone did you use the instructions in the all things root sticky?

If I root and freeze stuff I don't want can I hide the icons somehow too?

Yes, you need root to use it and yes, use the instructions in the "all things root" subforum.

When you freeze the apps, the icons will automatically be gone after a restart. You can also change the settings so that they won't show up in the "my apps" section on the market.

Sorry for all the newb questions but here's another one :-) if I root will I be able to delete the freaking bookmarks that were preset? I went to delete them and couldn't believe that it wouldn't let me.

Bookmarks? On web? No, I don't think so. I suggest installing a different browser anyways, they are usually faster and have better features. I use Dolphin mini.

Rooted all the bloatware is bugging me! This phone is way faster than the optimus but virgin mobile didn't install as much crap and lock the phone down like tmobile has. That batch file took a lot longer to run than I thought it would so that had me scared for a minute :)

The free version of titanium appears to have the option to freeze stuff. I wanna figure out how to do a backup before I do anything though.

This app let me delete the bookmarks someone on the t-mobile support forum told me about it. LINK
