Help Need Ginger Bread Update

hey guys i am from India i am a newbie to android and this forum too! just bought my galaxy sl i9003 bundled with 2.2 froyo which is consuming more battery. i heard that along with battery issues and some other performances have been noticeably increased with the ginger bread update. So i really want to update my phone with gingerbread. Any idea when it will be officially available? or else please post some links where i can update it manually. Do i need to root my phone to update f/w manually? please help me. TIA

Get it to your local authorised dealer. They would be able to do it.
Or you can update via KIES if the 2.3 version available in your country

I just went to Samsung Store in SM City Calamba a while ago. They told me the Samsung service center in Megamall was giving manual updates. Some people also say they are getting it via Kies already.
