Need help adding more fields to my saved contacts

I just got my desire and set it up. I synced it to my gmail. When I go into my contacts and try to add something to one of them like a address or email it won't let me. It says I disable a required permission. I've tried doing everything I can to figure out what this is and can't. Does anyone know how to fix this and can tell me? I don't even know how I disabled it.

Which Desire do you have? This section is for the original Desire (just "Desire", from 2010), and I'm probably the last person watching it. And as I don't have Marshmallow I don't have direct experience of the new permissions system so can't offer much help. We may do better to move this thread elsewhere (which a moderator can do).

Have you disallowed any permissions for the phone or people apps? Does it say what permission it thinks you have refused?

You can always work around it by editing the contacts in GMail (i.e. using a browser, not the GMail app) and then letting the sync update the phone, but obviously that's very inconvenient.
