Root Need Help after trying Custom ROM

Newbie
Hello All,

Well, I thought I wasn't a complete newbie having installed several custom ROMs on my LG Esteem & Amazon Kindle Fire, but my wife's Admire has me baffled. She doesn't want anything fancy but was frustrated by low memory messages and not being able to add the apps she wants. I saw the 2.3.6 Stock++ {(ROM)}.zip ROM and thought this would be ideal.

I used Odin to install CWM recovery, and then updated it to 6.0.3.2 so that I could flash different ROMs. I wiped everything first & it looked like the ROM flashed successfully, but it keeps crashing every few hours (SOD). I get the error message CMW-based recovery v6.0.3.2 E:can't open /cache/recovery/log & /recovery/las. I also can't install anything from the play market.

No problem I thought, I had made a back-up. Nope, that won't boot when I tried to restore it. I then tried other ROMs, OA2.3.20-FINAL-EXT4-900[FINAL]-Spz0.zip & ctmod 3.75.zip, but neither would boot after flashing. I also tried stock admire 2.3.4.zip without any luck.

My next thought was to try restoring CMW 5.0.2.7 again using Odin. I follow the same directions I had used before, but now when I connect the USB cable while holding down the camera button the phone doesn't turn on??

Does anybody have advice for me how to get a working phone again?

Thanks,

Kevin

The cache error is related to the google play 492 error that won't let you install anything. Re-flash the rom and it should fix that. Also if you made that backup with 5.0.2.7 you can't restore with any other cwm version except that one.

Did you try taking out the battery and putting back in then trying again?

I've tried reflashing several times. Sometimes the phone won't boot at all afterwards, other times it does but crashes soon after. Do you mean taking out the battery after crashes? My wife won't put up with that every few hours.

I have back-ups that I made with both versions of CWM, but neither work. Is there some way to restore CWM 5.0.2.7 so I can try my original back-up?

I had a similar problem, went to CWM 5.0.2.8, went back to 5.0.2.7 to try restoring backups and nothing would load. Went to 5.0.2.8 again and was able to flash OA rom.
So I suggest that, go to 5.0.2.8 and try a new rom. Any old backups probably will no longer work

Tried switching to CWM 5.0.2.8 and flashing the ROM twice but still had the same problem. I then tried OA, CT & Killer Bean ROMs but they either wouldn't boot or crashed right away (usually while trying to initiate phone with Google). Any other suggestions?

Like others have said if you keep trying to get to download mode eventually it will work (took about 12 attempts in my case). I was able to go back to CWM 5.0.2.7 and restore my stock ROM backup.

The only lasting effects are that none of the programs I had moved to the SD card worked anymore and when I boot into recovery I get these errors:

can't mount e: cache/recovery/log
can't open e: cache/recovery/log
can't mount e: cache/recovery/last log
can't open e: cache/recovery/last log

Should I do anything to the SD card?

When restoring or creating backups you should make sure that no apps are on your sdcard to avoid errors.

And like cogra said you just wipe and reflash to fix the cache errors.
