Need help deleting contacts from text

OK here is the deal. I have a number of unwanted contacts that only appear when I text. They are not in my phone book. I have deleted ALL contacts in Google and re-synced, but they are still there when I use text. There is no option to delete them.

How do I get rid of these junk contacts?

Hello and welcome dansalzmann!
What device do you have and are you using the stock sms app?
You could go into the manage applications and find the sms messaging app and clear data and cache. That may work for you:)
You may lose some settings you made for it but it may delete those junk contacts:)

Thanks for the reply. The phone is an HTC EVO, stock message app. i tried your suggestion, but the options to clear data and cache are greyed out. This is driving me buggy!

Those 'junk' contacts must have been saved as Phone contacts instead of Google contacts. IOW saved only locally on the phone and not synced to your Google account. Check the view properties of your contacts app for what contacts it is set to display. Refer to the manual for more details.

These contacts are not in my phone contacts. All my phone contacts were entered manually. These only show up when I try to text. They had to come from google, as I had a bunch of junk contacts in google mail (how I got those I have no idea).

I just want to delete this stuff. There HAS to be a way to delete them. You'd think there would be a DELETE option...

The junk contacts are *not* coming from Google if they do not show up in Google contacts. Look elsewhere.
