Need help diagnosing sudden change in phone behavior.

I posted this in the Droid X2 group, but haven't gotten any replies, and only a couple dozen views, so I thought I'd expand my search for help.

My phone has started acting strangely within the last couple of weeks. The problems go away (for awhile) when I reboot, but I'm having to reboot multiple times a day!

The main problem is the phone becomes partially unresponsive. By partially, I mean that I can generally open and close apps, but I can't input anything. For example, if I get a text message, I can open and read it, but I can't reply. The keyboard will pop up, and they behave like they are being pushed, but nothing actually gets entered. The same problem exists in any app that requires text - like my 'post-it note' widget. I can open it, but I can't edit or enter text.

I can't make calls either. I can open contacts, or view missed calls. But when I push the icon to dial, it highlights like it normally does, but the phone doesn't dial. I can select the dialer, but it is equally unresponsive. Voice command will try to open, but I get a message that there is insufficient memory even though I have no apps open, and over 1.4 GB of free storage.

The only new app that I've installed recently is a calculator. I uninstalled it just in case, but I have the same one on my tablet and haven't experienced any problems. Besides, I only used it a couple of times.

Even though it is an X2, the phone itself is fairly new. I use PagePlus, and bought the phone on eBay. But it was new in the box - not used. It had never been activated, and I've only been using it for less than a year.

It has worked like a charm up until just recently, but it is driving me crazy now!

Any ideas what could be causing this? Or what I might try to do to fix it?

Try a factory reset? It'll nuke everything and take it back to how it was when you opened the box, but the plus is that if it's an app that's causing the problem then that app will be gone.

I was naturally trying to avoid a hard reset if I could, but the way things are going, the phone is nearly useless anyway. All of the most important data is on the sd card or in the cloud so the main thing I'd have to do transfer things like pictures to my pc, and reinstall apps.

Thanks.

Yeah, that's kinda why I suggested it. A hard reset is never fun but if the phone's useless already you pretty much have little to lose.

I hope it solves your issue.
