Help Need help getting out of boot menu.

Hi BertieBB, and welcome to AF :D

You seem to have got a long way for someone new to HTC phones. :)

If it's going straight to bootloader then there's clearly something badly wrong with the software. It sounds like both recovery and ROM are messed up. HTC Sync won't work unless you can boot Android, and ADB requires either Android or a custom recovery, so fastboot is the only thing I'd expect to work in this state.

Why you can't fastboot flash recovery I don't know, since the bootloader is unlocked. Are you certain that the recovery image you have is for this model?

For the RUU, try putting the phone into fastboot rather than hboot. It should work when in that mode.

Good luck. It should be doable, but the recovery flash failing is puzzling.

You won't be able to flash recovery with the bootloader locked. Those recoveries sound correct, so it's odd you can't flash them when unlocked.

RUUs have to be chosen carefully. The "cid" is a "customer id" check, which means region + network branding (or lack of branding), and this must match your device. So you will need a Vodafone RUU for that phone.

I've only ever flashed images, not zips. There is a "fastboot update" command which looks like it would flash a zip, but I've never used this. With an S-On device you can't fastboot flash the kernel (boot.img), so the recovery or RUU is what I think you need.
