Need Help in Tethering

hi! newbie here..

i just want to ask if you guys know of any method on how to see connected devices on your tethered connection.

IN OTHER WORDS:

i want to see who connects to my wifi tethered hotspot. NOT JUST SEE but also
deny a device access to my connection..(i.e. I don't want a device connecting to my hotspot)

please help...really urgent...(really need your help because my neighbor is freeriding in my wifi hotspot)...

Yeah but:
1. I dont have root cause I'm not still convinced yet to go for rooting..
2. I have two pcs at home - my laptop (win7) and desktop(winXP)
a. if I enable password (WPA2-PSK) my desktop can't connect...(but my laptop can)...
b. if I disable password, both my pcs can connect but it seems like the connection slows down(that's why I thought that my neighbors might have been connecting to my access point...and I have solid evidence..haha)

now, I just need an app that acts like a tethering connection manager without the need for root access...are there any apps you can suggest?

WinXP should work with WPA2-PSK, but if you can't get it configured, try simple WPA or even WEP. Not as secure, but it might be enough to keep your neighbor off.

I had this issue with hotspot on Desire S and a Win Xp Pro machine.

Think it was either a channel number issue (was set to auto, so I changed it to manual and selected a number 11 or lower) or I set up the hotspot with the same SSID and password as my home router, turned off my home router and it conned the laptop to connecting OK.

How do you select security type other than WPA2-PSK in android?

In gingerbread, only WPA2-PSK and None are the options for security in Wifi tethering...

or will I use XP as the 'access point' of all other devices that will connect to my internet?

Try downloading "Foxfi" from the Google Play store. It works on non rooted devices. I have been able to tether my Android tablet and Kindle Fire and also set up a password to keep others out.

Foxfi walks you through setting up the password and all. Fing can tell you what devices are connected to the wifi connection that you are connected to. I don't know if it will work the same when you have hotspot on and devices connected, but you might try it. Either way, I really don't recommend doing hotspot (or any wifi network) without a password.
