Ah the dreaded .9's well depending on what you're editing (if you're getting force closes I'm guessing activity title bar, title bar or a header background) the best way is to decompile the apk, open the image in your editing software of choice and note where the black pixel borders are around the image.(these control how the image stretches etc) point being you can edit the color of a decompiled .9 or resize it as long as those 1pixel borders aren't disturbed. Then recompile and push your apk then profit. There's tons of guides and how to's out there from 9 draw patch to various other tools xeudous over at Droid forums made a great tool. Just Google around a bit and you'll find tons of resources.
