Need help on going to new carrier

Hello, my friend that has a Galaxy s3 asked me to flash his sprint phone to straight talk. I don't think this is possible because of it being a gsm phone. Now he wants it flashed over because it was his friends bill who somehow gathered a $300 bill on it. I don't know how but he did. Anyways, are there any carriers he could switch to? I know T-mobile that pay the rest of your contract thing but I don't think it applies to this situation with the contract being over. I've tried to google some things but it didn't really help

Can you clarify what network the phone originally came from? It sounds like Sprint, but Sprint is CDMA, not GSM.

If the phone is in collections/has unpaid bills then most likely it's been blacklisted from all networks.

If it's a Sprint Galaxy S3 phone in good standing Boost Mobile and Ting are two carriers you could use it with.

Sorry, my bad. Sprint is CDMA. But yeah I'll check with him how old the bill is and stuff and what he knows about it. Thank you
