Help Need help On The Gingerbread Update for Optimus S.

Shotypie

Lurker
One day at school I was texting my friend and a notification for an update came up. I hit "Update later" thinking it would pop up again later. Then I forgot about it for about 3 weeks. My sister has the same phone and I noticed she had hers updated. So now I wanted to try and update my phone.

I think it is the Gingerbread update but I am not sure. I tried updating manually so I went to Settings>about phone then clicked Update Firmware, Update Profile, and Update PRL. None of those things worked. So I would really appreciate if you guys could help me troubleshoot. I'm sure you all have the update for you'r Optimus so could someone tell me what happened to them if anyone else hit "Update later" and how can I fix this. Thanks.

Next time it asks:

1. Click ‘more info’.
2. Pull the battery out and count to ten.
3. Put it back.
4. Restart. This maybe twice.

The 'update' to Gingerbread, in a word, sucks. Loved my phone before. Stable, very functional, etc. Now it is slower, locks up regularly, thinks I've removed the SD card regularly requiring me to pop it out and then back in, my 36 year old eyes can hardly see the notification bar which has now turned black with green lettering and a font size of something less than 1, the new keyboard is craptastic, and overall makes me NOT like the phone. From the info on this forum, I'll be headed to a Sprint store to go back to Froyo or whatever the last system was, and hopefully happiness will ensue.

Oh, my point is, don't update.
