Need help, phone frozen

MattX13

Newbie
I've been running CM 7 with the Firerat mod for some time now with no problems. This morning my phone rang, and the screen froze. I couldn't answer from the screen or from the call button. Now my phone is frozen. I can wake the screen, but it won't unlock. If I hit the end button and immediately hit the menu button the unlocked screen will appear, but it is frozen. I've booted into the white recovery screen, tried reset device, and nothing. Still does the same thing. How do I force it into recovery so that I can reload the ROM?

With the phone off hold the volume down and power button until you reach the white hboot screen. Then hit the home button to get to recovery.

Did that, but all I get is a black screen. The screen is lit, but it's black. Any other suggestions.

I've already checked and I'm still under contract, so if I can't get it fixed I'm screwed.

Did you try to take the battery out first and the put it back on and see if she boots up

So you can get to hboot but not to recovery correct? And it won't boot up normally either?

If nothing works to get back up and running try this [RUU] Official 2.31.651.7 in ZIP Format, Flashable from Fastboot - xda-developers

It is a zip file you place on the root of your sdcard boot to hboot and then you can load stock sprint unrooted. Just follow the directions exactly. Then just reroot and start all over again. So don't sweat it to much about your contract. There are multiple things to try and get you back up and running.

Ok. Tried this and it's still a no go. I noticed when hboot does that quick scan of the image that it says wrong image or something. It's almost too fast to read.

Mine is a HeroC but it is not Sprint. Would that be the problem here? I originally had a backup of my stock ROM but I lost it.

I'm appreciating all the help so far. Without it I'm stuck. What next?

uhhhh ohhhhh -
Then you probabaly Aren't S-off -

Change the name - open the SD card....put it right there....DON"T make a folder or put it in a folder.

Turn off.....Hold Volume Down and power....what happens?

Mcat you don't have to be s-off to flash this ruu lbp has flashed it s-on before.

When I used it in ended up having to format my sd card to get my phone to recognize it. And on xda I helped with a guy who couldn't get it to flash and he tried a new card and it flashed first time. So sometimes it's the card itself that is the problem.

hboot comes up. During the quick little scan it does, I can see several places where it says "wrong image".

The options it shows are, <vol up> Fastboot mode, <back> Simlock, <home> Recovery

I've tried all of these and nothing works.

I have another card. I'll try that and report back in just a couple minutes...............

That is correct, but I was also not able to do this this process on this past weekend, I had to flash the RUU the old fashion way, he is getting the same message, it scrolls fast and says image not found, I think he might have to be on a sense Rom to be able to flash it in fastboot, that is the only thing I could think of, same goes for flashing the RUU the old fashion way, as HTC sync works on sense.

Yea don I struggle for more than a month trying to flash it. I still had the pri and original boot screen from 1.5 when I rooted. So I tried everything under the sun. But hboot would scan and say no image wrong image. I was so frustrated but I finally found a random forum for a different phone and someone formated their sd and it worked. So I finally backed it all up and formated. First boot bam it finds it.

It is not the card, I had the same issue you are having, I think you have to be on a sense Rom, IMO, I could be wrong, it did not work for me either, I tried every possible scenario and it was a no go, I restored my Liquidsense Rom, and then flashed the RUU with HTC Sync, took 5 minutes and it was done

No go. It still says no image or wrong image.

Well, I did not know that, so that is what he needs to do, back up your SD card, then format it and give it a whirl again. I was sure that it was because I was not on a sense Rom.

Definitely not a sure thing but couldn't hurt to try. I was not on a sense rom at the time I am sure of that. But just like everything some phones just act different.

And as a last resort just take it back to a store and say you turned it on and it won't boot. Most places don't mind your rooted in feel like it's almost common place now. Don't tell them you are outright sometimes they don't know what it is and will replace it under warranty.

Formatted the card, put the HERCIMG.Zip file on it, and tried again. It took a while and scanned the file this time, but it stopped and said, "CID Incorrect", "Update Fail" and then reboot, yes or no. I rebooted, and still nothing.

Well lets see what happens when he format the SD card, fingers crossed

Simply name it HERCIMG and try again without the .zip

Also download the file again to make sure it is not corrupted

It's definitely named right or it wouldn't have loaded up. Well that definitely proves my format theory.

I think we need to figure out what cid is. It probably has to do with him not being on sprint. But not entirely sure.

Reformatted, put the file on there without .zip, no go. Same as before. Scans in like 1 second, and for that brief second I can see it saying no image or wrong image.

I really appreciate all the help. What do I do now?

Wish I didn't send the phone back, otherwise I would of tried it, lol

Jump ship, lol I would simply take it back to Sprint
