I have a spectrum that is rooted has cwm recovery, and broken out 3.0 installed. I do not have a backup for the stock rom any longer.

The problem I am having started when I installed broken out I get a symbol in the upper right corner every so often of a steering wheel I have since identified it as part of the vlingo app, what happens is the symbol flashes and force quits what ever I have open at that time. At times it becomes very persistent force quitting over and over and eventually putting me into a reboot which occasionally will become a reboot loop. In addition occasionally on reboot the icons at the top of the screen do not appear (time, battery, signal 4g etc) and I have no service.

I no longer have the vlingo app installed I have also tried installing the app to see if it would fix the issue and it does not. I have tried wiping all user data and wiping my sd card and installing broken out to attempt to fix the problem I have been on 2.0 and 3.0 and can not fix this issue.

Any thoughts on this issue would be great thanks in advance.

Boot into recovery and WIPE DATA. THat will remove all apps and user data. It will remove vlingo too, since it doesn't come with BO3. If you restore apps, DO NOT restore data... you want to make sure you don't accidentally bring the problem back.

Keep in mind, doing this wipes out SMS and Call Logs, so back that info up first.

MrB206 thanks for the response I guess my rambling below wasn't as clear as I wanted it to be, I have tried what you suggested numerous times both with BO2 and BO3 when it was released to no avail.

The only app restoring I have been doing is re-downloading them from google play, have not used any app backup programs since this problem started. I assume that re-installing the apps in this way would not cause a problem with user data conflicts. Or am I wrong?

Thanks for any further help or suggestions you may have

I LITERALLY had the same issue w/ BO2, so what I did was uninstalled in completely, and wiped EVERYTHING, Dalvik, WIPE DATA option, all of it, and the reinstalled the .zip from recovery, no reboots, no Car mode...nothing.

it makes no sense that a data wipe and reflashing of broken out wouldn't fix this. But I'm not calling you a liar and if this problem is still persisting even after all that then you must have some file somewhere reattaching itself somehow.

I was thinking that you may have a corrupt copy of broken out 3 but since you flashed 2 as well and it's still happening that makes it highly unlikely.

I would go ahead and download the nandroid of stock v4 and flash that and then use the v4 stock for a few hours just to make sure all is running well and then go ahead and download a fresh copy of broken out 3, and flash that

If you are still having this issue after all that then I would return the phone to stock and request a replacement.

Agreed, so that brings up a few other questions. Since you're not restoring app data:

1- Did you encounter this issue on stock rooted? (this points to a device issue)
2- What apps are you installing (you can PM that answer if you prefer)? (this points to app issues)

Unfortunately, there are some questionable apps in the Android markets and they can potentially lead to the vlingo/wigging-out issues you experienced. ADW is one of the worst offenders (not that it's questionable, just not working with all phones 'right')... it calls a 'dead' Java pointer all the time and wigs out the phone, causing a fatal reset. Even with no app data restored, it'll do it over time.

1. No I did not have this issue on stock rooted
2. the most recent time I wiped user data, wiped dalvik, even wiped battery and wiped the sd card so the only thing on it was BO3 and installed no other apps still had the same issue...before installing broken out the first time I did have ADW downloaded on the phone but was not using it, was using golauncher at the time.

I took IMUcarmen advice and installed stock v4 following Neph81's instructions for "How to return to pure V4 Verizon stock with only CWM recovery" and still have the same issue I took a video of the first boot up with stock V4. Here is the link right away during initial setup the vlingo icon pops up and around 1:26 the vlingo icon pops up agin and continues to do so. This is on stock V4 didn't download anything extra and still no dice.

If anyone has any further thoughts let me know otherwise I may just go to Verizon now that I'm unrooted and on stock again.

take the sd card out and boot it up and see what happens. If it still pops up then just exchange it.

i just watched the video and that certainly is weird. Use a root explorer app and find all files you can that are related to vlingo and delete them. There must be a solution to this issue.

I had this same issue... You need to go into your explorer and search for the word car.... Car2home.apk is to blame... delete anything related to it...

atomilluminati found carhome.apk in system/apps deleted them both......hope this solves the issue

Thanks for everyone who responded
