Root need help removing ClockWorkMod

itsdamage

Newbie
hey folks, i just recently bought the triumph for my girlfriend from someone off craigslist.

phone works great and i know she'll be happy with it.

as i was going to do a factory reset, i was taking to the boot screen and shows that it has the clockwordmod recovery on it.

i'm not TOO familiar with modding, flashing roms, etc. so i'd like to remove it and just keep the phone stock everything.

how would i go about removing the clockworkmod recovery and keep the stock recovery?

i need help please

first off. do NOT do factory reset with any custom stuff. thats meant to be used while phone is stock. ONLY.

now you will have to download a custom rom and flash it with that CWM. try FroyoCream Sandwich. its based on stock and is only themed to look like android 4.0 works EXACTLY like stock (with better battery life and its faster all over)

thats all you need to do.

you wont have an easy time finding a stock rom, but IF YOU DO, you will still need to flash it with CWM on the phone.

after the stock rom is intalled and you verified it works, heres how you put stock recovery back on.

1. turn phone 100% off.

2. connect supplied usb cable to your PC, be ready to move the stock recovery onto the phone, that means have it downloaded (if you can find it on this site somewhere)

3. hold volume DOWN and insert the usb cord while your holding it down.

4. the phone will boot into download mode and your PC will recognize it as a flash storage device, named MOBILE

5. open the folder named IMAGE, and inside youll see a file called "recovery.img" this is the cwm recovery.

6. just rename it to ANYTHING else (like oldrecovery.img)

7. drag the new recovery into this folder and name it "recovery.img" if you dont give it that same name, phone wont boot.

the phone is going to look for a file called recovery.img when it starts. doesnt matter if its cwm or stock, ONE OF THEM NEEDS to be there regardless.

I highly recommend using a rom like FroyoCream Sandwich. everything in it works 100%. unlike the stock rom, which freezes, crashes, lags, reboots, and fills up its own memory with log files.

if you give it to her with the stock rom, thats asking for a break up

this will also work if the phone already has stock rom?

because nothing seems changed. it JUST has clockwork recovery on it.

here are the specs

Android version:
2.2.2

Baseband version:
PR5

Kernel version:
Apps_2.6.32.9-perf

Software version:
1010_2_039

oh, and i was able to find a motorola triumph stock recovery.rar file

it has the recovery.img file.

LOL, just caught the last line you put, not really, shes not too techy about her phone.
atleast i hope not o_O

i guess i'll end up keeping the clockwork, it doesnt affect the phone from what i can tell, and it doesnt void warranty right?

because im thinking of calling Virgin Mobile within a week or so, and replacing it just cuz.

Just boot into download mode (volume - then power while fully off do a battery pull just to make sure if you want.) It should then say polling= something or something like that plug it into a computer and put the stock recovery.img there and you have stock recovery. And people have returned their phones with custom stuff on there with no problem so you could keep it on if you want.

Also, the stock ROM is linked in the All Things Root Guide sticky. (I think it is the bottom ROM link).

Changing the recovery would probably void the warranty. But they may not care.

thats exactly the problem. shes not going to KNOW how to clear the logs or how to reset it when it freezes.

shell be disapointed and hate the phone with the stock rom.

if you put a fixed rom, she just gets to use it without experiencing its problems. thus saving both of you headache.

your choice bro :D

That's not necessarily true... There are people who are happy being on stock. I wasn't really but then again I was used to using cm7 at the time. It's just like how people say sense sucks and has some major bugs and is a cpu hog and all that. I use sense day in and day out and have no problems. It's better to start on stock then if you really hate it so much then move on to something else (a custom rom, or just rooting and removing bloatware). Like the saying goes: To each their own.
