They are firmware packages, not insecure kernels needed for reporting.

Go to slugs sticky post above. Go to cf root page. This is chainfires method of rooting and is the most reliable. Scroll down and find the file download with kf4, and flash this through odin. You'll then be rooted.

to upgrade to 2.3.5, do this before rooting. go here:

[ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8 Download - xda-developers

KI3 is a safe bet, one of the latest, flash this through odin:

Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

then to root, use the chainfire method:

[08.10.2011][CF-Root v4.3] KE*, KF*, KG1/2/3/5/6/7, KH1/3/4, KI2/3/4/8 - su+bb+CWM4 - xda-developers

and scroll down to the insecure kernel that is closest to your updated frmware, so if KI3:

need to know can i flash KI3 with my Kernal version: 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKF4-CL331615root@DELL105#2. is it safe to do flashing.
thank you v much

You will be rooting with the cfroot ki3 kernel after updating the firmware so it will be fine to flash the ki3 firmware on your phone as it is.
