Apps Need Help With Advertising

So about 3 weeks ago I published my first app to google play and since then I have gotten only 1 download. I have been looking online for ways to promote and advertise my game however I realized I might get something more specific if I tried here. My app is currently selling for $0.99 and I was hoping to keep a very low budget (free if possible), although I wouldn't mind a pay-per-install scenario depending on the price. Please be specific in your replies as I am very new to this.

My app is a puzzle game and you can find it with this link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.EthanAllwood.negativespace

Also, if you do have any ideas or suggestions for the game itself, I am always looking for ways to improve. :)

Welcome to AF!!
I may not know much, if anything, about promoting apps but.....
Here are my opinions.
First opinion as a mod here:
you can promote your app in this thread to begin with:
http://androidforums.com/forums/app-game-announcements.39/
:D

Second opinion as a normal Joe Blow looking for a new game, then finding your game in the PlayStore.

I'll be kinda brutally honest, but please take it lightly and it's just my opinion.....
Your app, based on your screenshots and description, looks kinda boring. :(
4 screenshotes, black and white, no video depicting gameplay, looks pixelated, and not really that eye catching.

I'm sorry, but I really want to help, but that's my thoughts..... from a normal Joe Blow. (me). ;)

Please don't hate me, like I said, that's just my opinion.
Perhaps add a video of the gameplay.
Maybe some color?

As far as advertising? Maybe some other devs can chime in here about that. :)
Hell, I'd be more than happy to buy it and give my input on it:)
I do wish you the very best with your app and here at AF, we truly support our devs. :)

Thanks for your opinion. I do agree that the screenshots need some work and that is my next project so those should be much better within the week. I can try and get some game video, but I'm not sure about adding color as it would not exactly fit the theme of the game...

Cool:) and understood.

Just so I understand, you are selling the game for $0.99?

You may want to consider implementing an in-app purchase option. The game could be free to download and play demo levels then if someone should find it interesting, they can pay some nominal sum to access more levels. Or something like that.

There are many ways to implement in-app purchase option. Just as a suggestion I would seriously look into developing your games with a javascript game engine and Apache Cordova - which is a multi-platform app development framework. Apache Cordova has a plugin for in-app purchases that will work on multiple platforms - android, ios, etc.
