Need help with Maps/....markers

Hey folks

I thought I posted this already but I cannot seem to find what I posted.

Is there a way when using GPS and maps to Mark a location?

  • I have been trying like hell to mark a spot in a field where I want to come back to. Seems to not work.

Am I doing something wrong or missing this simple task?

I had to break out my old Garmin eTrex to mark a few spots in a field and I don't know a way to import those into my GS3.

Thanks

RR

Long press at the location in Maps, tap at the pop up label will switch to the location page, then staring the location page.
Next time the location can be found in Maps -> My Places ...

With the Garnin, read out the coordinates of your locations and put them in Maps's search window.
Then carry out the same procedure as above :)

Thanks, but if you are not hear a solid data connection, it won't let you "star" the location That was my problem

As for reading out the coordinates, that didn't seem to work either.

Any other suggestions? (Could be user error of course)

Yes, Maps needs for staring and searching a data connection.

If you won't like or haven't a data connection, you might look at a GPS/maps app like Osmand with its pre-loaded OpenStreetMaps (OSM).
Or a turn-by-turn offline navigation like Navigon or CoPilot.
All these apps let you save locations :)

For hiking locations I use BackCountry Navigator with pre-loaded topographic maps.
