Root Need help with Nandroid backup - GOT OR

Hi. I was able to root my Milestone 1 (with 2.1 update 1) using the G.O.T. Open Recovery and Root it (I think.) I can see the superuser app installed. However, when I try to do a nandroid backup of ALL - the phone gets to "checking sd card free space" then does nothing and gets hot. I also tried backing up System only and it gives 3-4 messages about partitions, but still hangs up with the LED at the top blinking red. I left it alone for more than half hour - and nothing happens.

I would really like to do a backup before I install a custom ROM.

Am I doing something wrong?

root your Milestone in recovery.
Then try to do the backup again

Hello creaper - thanks for the suggestion. I actually moved on from using just the rooted phone with the group of ten open recovery - and reflashed to 2.3.7 cyanogen mod 7.1 ROM. All is fine now.
