I received the ota update for gingerbread but the install fails every time citing that it cannot find asphalt. I removed a bunch of bloatware using titanium backup earlier and I believe this is the issue. My phone is not rooted and I did not backup any of the apps, stupidly. I have tried factory resetting to no avail. I have also tried recovery but it fails and shows a red phone with an exclamation mark. I even downloaded pd15img.zip and tried factory resetting with this but this did not work either. Please help I want gingerbread and can't root my phone to flash a custom rom. I need this ota update.

Actually, you NEED air and food and water. I'd be amazed if there is anything in Gingerbread that any of us NEED.
You can't root your phone at all? Or you just don't want to?
I tried a few "official" root methods for the Mytouch which didn't work at all for me. But then I found this guide for the G2 which works for our phones too and it's fairly easy. Try it and then you can install cyanogenmod or another gingerbread rom.

By this time, T-Mobile reps can already install the update for you. Go to your local T-Mobile store and have your phone updated. That is the real advice I can give to you. Cheers...

Where are you located because I have been on the phone with support for 4 days now and none of the tmobile retail stores around me have the update right now. So stating to someone to go to a tmo rep is false unless your stores have it and 10 to 15 stores around me don't.... Also they have been getting a lot of complaints from members who have been getting to OTA and it is not working for them...
Here is the advice I have for you... Download the file, connect your phone to your pc/mac, find the file and move it to the root of your SD Card, restart the phone holding the volume key pointing down while pressing the power button, a boot screen will come up and scan the SD card for the file and it will update it... Follow the instructions on the screen and good luck. If you have done this and getting the error, remove the file from your SD card, placing it on your desktop, repeat the process of restarting your phone while holding the volume key down and restore your phone, then proceed to do the upgrading procedure..

You MUST have the bloatware installed to update, found this out with my galaxy tab...
