Okay. i've got it installed and running just fine.. my real issue is with connecting my laptop to a wifi network to (1), share the PDANet connection with other computers and more importantly, an AppleTV, and (2), still be able to connect to the WLAN, and communicate with other devices on the WLAN.. any body able to help?

Are you trying to share your phones internet connection with all those devices? If you are, you need to wi-fi tether with your phone, or set up internet connection sharing on your laptop, and your laptop's wi-fi card would have to support broadcasting as an AP.
Also the free version of pdanet does not support SSL, which means no checking e-mail or going to any website that needs authentication.

Depending on your phone, your best bet is to set up some type of wi-fi tethering from the phone.

i'm using PDANet for the USB tethering function to free up the wifi for broadcasting the network, mostly. otherwise, i also have Barnacle installed, but it only broadcasts an ad-hoc network, otherwise i'd use it to connect everything. (AppleTV doesn't see ad-hoc.. or at least, not easily). also, i can't even HTTP into my local wireless router, with the laptop running PDANet, to even try to set up the shared connection as the internet connection... which is another issue. i can't access anything on the WLAN locally.

Computers can only be on one network at a time, can't use pdanet and connect to a local network at the same time.

This isn't true. Windows recognizes PDAnet as a modem, not a network. I use PDAnet in tandem with an ad hoc network to setup wi-fi hotspots very frequently.
