Need help with removing malware, and also watching videos

Hello. I have a Galaxy tablet (purchased in 2011. Model number: SHW-M380W. Android version 3.1. Manufacturer: Made in Korea by SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS).

I use the tablet mainly for watching movies before I go to bed. Whenever I click on "start video" buttons, I get virus warnings/messages. It almost happens every time I try to load up a video

Oh. I can post pictures now.

I also have to mention that my Tablet randomly turns itself on, and consumes battery. Is this also related to the malware? Or could it be a mechanical issue?

Again, thanks so much in advance.

Looks like pop-up scareware ads. Did you install a free/adware app, game or wallpaper before it started happening? - or possibly something was updated that included this stuff.

There's plenty of information in our forum stickies about it, and what you can do about it.

If you can't identify what caused it, a factory reset should clear it, backup anything important first.

I moved this thread from Android Lounge to the forum dedicated to discussing this tablet. This is where you will find the highest concentration of users of this tablet.

Will a computer shop repair this for me? How much will it cost? This is a lot more complicated than I thought

I didn't install anything suspicious recently.

Thanks for the links. But I am not really knowledgeable with computers, so I can't really understand what's posted there

My tablet has been in sleep mode for 6 hours or so, and battery level dropped by 20%. Is this normal?

Check your Play Store to see what were the last few apps that were installed. Open Play, then choose My Apps from the pop-out on the left. Choose All to see all the apps that have been installed. These are typically listed in the order they were installed (newest on the top). See if anything that was installed recently looks 'suspicious'. Try removing some of the apps that were installed recently and see if that makes a difference. If you do this one at a time you might be able to isolate the offending app so you can reinstall the others. What you are describing sounds a lot like a scareware app, not a true virus or trojan.

The battery loss you are describing certainly isn't normal. It's not uncommon for a scareware app to run all the time in the background so it can monitor your activity to pop up these scary messages. This would cause a lot of battery loss.

Good luck finding the offending app.
