Need help with Sms Apps please

Android Enthusiast
I have a Nexus 4 phone
I am using the default Android Messaging App on it
However it wont show photos that are sent to me They are just blank.

So I want to find another one to use

I do also use Whatsapp which I am very happy with Especially as I can send photos free with it!
However a lot of my Contacts don't use it So am stuck

Can you suggest another simple one for me to try please?

Has to be free to send photos lol

Saw Handcent will that do what I want?

But does it display my email address? Didn't want that as Whatsapp does not

The limit on MMS size is set by the carrier and you need a data plan. What they can do is use an app like Flickr or whatever Google has and send you a link to photo. Or use Dropbox.

The Nexus has an 8MP camera and I have to resize photo to 800x600 or ever 640x480 to send. Otherwise, TMO will just chew on it for hours and not send it.

Handcent is just SMS/MMS, so nothing to do with your email. So no need to worry about that.

Its just I went to join and it asked me for an email address to sign on.
So I thought that would be displayed.
Some of my contacts just know my phone number
Not my email.

Also do you know if it let's me send photos for free as I do in Whatsapp?

Also your data connection (not wifi) must be on to receive pictures in texts

Hi mydata connection is on if WiFi disconnects when I am out.

Just want to hide my email address and be able to send photos for free...the same as Whatsapp... To people who won't download whatsapp

Presumably that's for the "Handcent talk" chat function, which they've added since I last used it. For standard SMS/MMS it won't display an email address. But if you want that function I can't speak from experience - I'd not expect it to show an email address, but cannot be certain.

Thanks. I finally bit the bullet and downloaded Handcent. It seems ok for the SMS and doesn't seem to show my email. But I just accidentally clicked on chat and now I don't know how to disable chat.

Can you help with that for me?

Never used the Chat thing. I'd guess that Settings > Apps > Downloaded > Handcent, then "clear data" would remove it, as that will set the app back to the way it was when first installed (shouldn't remove messages, as they are stored in a system database that's not part of that app's data).
