Help Need help with Sync problems

I have a HTC incredible, installed sync on the PC, and have USB debugging turned on. Every time I try to sync the phone and PC I get this message.

Fail to mount/unmount device storage card. (1020)

I am trying to access pics on the phone storage so don't see what the SD card has to do with this. Also when I look at the details info on a pic it says that it is stored on the SD under DCIM/100media. The DCIM folder is empty there is no 100media sub folder to open. I have looked under every folder on the SD card and the pics aren't there so I need to be able to sync phone memory to PC in hopes of retrieving them.

Try just connecting phone to computer (not syncing, just conecting as an external drive.) For this go to Menue - Settings - Connect to PC and select Default connection type "Disk Drive."
This will allow you to browse your phone as if it's an external drive.
