My husbands rugby keeps running on WiFi and 4g if he takes his battery out it will start running on WiFi but as he playing hay day it will start running on both WiFi and 4g any suggestions on how to stop the 4g running when WiFi is available

The fact that 4G is showing on the notifications at the top doesn't mean that the phone is using 4G, it just means that 4G is available there. But he can turn off mobile data, or install a widget called Data ON-OFF so he can turn data on and off from the screen.

Precisely what Rukbat said. The fact that the $g symbol is popping up just means a background service (Like Mms/picture messaging) is using it.
