Need ideas for old Droid

My first post and I hope people have some ideas.

I am about to get a new phone and want to make sure my old Droid (1) has all it needs before I swap. I want to make the most of the phone without a plan.

What will still work when the phone is no longer on a plan?

I have not experimented with WiFi out and about. I use it fine at home. Is it difficult to connect to public WiFi? We don't have a lot of that in my area anyway.

Will I still be able to get new apps?

Pandora? TV.com? Stitcher? Gmail? Email? Music downloads? Facebook?

I have never used Skype. Can I use that to make calls if there is WiFi?

Any thoughts on how to make this work without a plan is appreciated.

THanks, JL

Everything will work even without a plan. It doesnt need a data plan to work. In fact, I have a lot of friends who have droids that dont have internet plans. Connecting to WiFi is not trouble as well.
