Need some help please

Well long story short I left the android game for a bit but I'm back and rocking out the Motorola droid now. I love it so far. The guy I got from had it rooted already but it's running 2.0 still. I want to get this puppy on 2.1. I've tried to hard reset to factory but I cant seem to figure that out.. So can someone help me figure out how to upgrade it via root? When I reboot the phone it has a droidmod logo instead of the normal boot up screen.. I'd really like to get this phone on 2.1, somehow I know it can be done.

in ur phones browser go to Droidmod.org. Go scroll down to the releases area. Click it. Download dmupdater 11. open it up and go into rom menu. Download stock 2.0.1. Once it flashes it go into the setting, about phone, system updates and install 2.1.
