Need space?

Recently I've gotten my girlfriend a 16g SD card, because her phone has about 150m of app storage. I figured just moving the apps to the card would fix that problem. It did a little, but it looks as only partial pieces of the apps are on the card. And most can't be transferred (via phone anyway). She has a Huawei-U8652. She doesn't have much on there at all. Maybe 10 apps that's not given by the carrier.

If I could get referred to some reference that helps, or if anyone can give me advice on how to solve this problem, thank you in advance!

If the phone has root access, try "titanium backup". It can move pretty much any app to the sd card. Also, try clearing up app cache, either through settings> applications, or download "apps 2 sd" and do it from there.

You can go into the Settings, and delete the cache in individual apps as that'll take up lots of storage: the browser can be a real problem with cache. You can also install a cache cleaning app. If you're up for the risk, rooting is also an option as it'll give you the option of forcing over apps that don't already allow SD storage, though that can break functionality in some cases like widgets.

If you want to move more apps to the SD card, you don't need to root but you'll need to have the Android SDK installed. How-To Install Android SDK On Windows, Mac and Linux

Then on your phone go to settings>applications>development and enable USB Debugging. Plug your phone into the PC using the USB cable.

open a command prompt on your PC (start>run type "cmd" press ENTER)

Change directory to the android-sdk-windows\tools folder (This location has moved in newer versions of the SDK)

At the prompt type
Code:
adb devices
and you should see your phone listed as a serial number.

type
Code:
adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2

Done.

Now the default location to install apps is the SD card. And, some apps that you couldn't move to the SD card will now be able to be moved. Keep in mind Widgets and services should always be installed to the phone and not the SD card, so if you follow the steps above and you install a widget afterwards, you will need to go to settings>applications>manage applications and manually move it to the phone. If you want to set the default install location back to the phone, you simply repeat the process but use
Code:
adb shell setInstallLocation 0

Time for the trick that keeps my eensy Optimus alive:

Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Maps > Uninstall (enormous) Updates.
