Need update badly!!!

So I have the s6 active, it's an att phone but on MetroPCS service. And I'm still on the 5.1.1 ios, my automatic update doesn't work, what do I need to do to update?

Change the ROM to the appropriate S6 Active generic, or a Metro PCS one.
I've never had to deal with carrier version devices myself, but you should find the appropriate ROMs and instructions here. https://www.sammobile.com/

Do you have an AT&T SIM? I suspect it's not updating as it's not on the AT&T network.

Correct and no I do not have an att sim it's on metro service

If you are in the US and have a Best Buy store near by, the Samsung Rep there can apply the updates for you. AT&T is stingy with their firmware and you can only receive OTA's if you have a active AT&T sim.
