Need your views on the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Need the forums opinion.

Looking to get a new phone. I an considering the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

Since this is the AFs Galaxy Ace sub forum I thought this would be the perfect spot to get the poop on the phone.

I know it has a 3.5 inch screen, and a 800mhz chip, but not much else.
Found it for 240.00, is that a good price.

In a nut shell, are there any issues with this phone that make it a nightmare to use.
I had the Motorola Triumph and I don't want to repeat that. Hardware specs are not important. That the phone works, and runs stable is.

Random shutdown and startups, bad GPS, unresponsive screen and home buttons, things like that make the phone undesirable. Those thing and more were issues with the MT and I don't want another like it.

I know you get a lemon now and then but the MT was a flip, you had one good apple in a barrel of lemons, I got a lemon.
On the whole is the Galaxy Ace a good phone or bad?

I bought this phone about 3 weeks ago and I believe that I've played enough with it so be able to criticize it.

1- Specs aren't the best but they're equivalent to the price but you should be able to complete your daily tasks easily with it. I paid 200 for mine in Canada.

2- The battery is only 1350 mAh so you're most-likely going to have to recharge it every day, depending if your WiFi is always running and how much you're using the phone. I assume that you're used to recharging phones often if it's not your first android.

3- So far, the phone responses very well to the home button and the screen, I have nothing negative to say about that. No unexpected shutdowns. I haven't used the GPS enough to say something about it.

4- The WiFi seems to be stable but I'm having hard times with setting up proxies so if you absolutely have to use proxies to connect to certain access points, you might have problems too. I'm not the only one who's complaining about that.

Honestly, I'd say this phone is great for its price as long as you don't expect it to be the fastest phone ever which isn't your case as I can see. Also, make sure that recharging the battery every day suits your lifestyle or you're gonna regret it.

Another reason why I chose this one is because I don't like bigger screens for phones, this one is pretty much the perfect size for me.

Good enough.
I have two phones, one for work and one for personal use.
I have had android phones, many over the last year and given most away to family and friends, I have learned that most all smart phones need to be charged every day, so that is a normal routine.
Setting up proxies I have never done so that is out.
Specs on this phone are better than the last I had and the screen is larger by a bit so that is a step up.
From what you say it sounds like it will work for me, but I do need someone to comment on the GPS. If I buy this phone the GPS must work well.
If you never had to use the Motorola Triumph you are lucky. It will run for near 15 minutes and still not get a GPS lock, if you install GPS Fix, the app will run for near 15 min getting a lock and then it takes another 5 min after that for the GPS app to lock and give you directions. I can not express what a nightmare that phone is for a great majority of the people that forked out 300.00 for it.
I have had phones in the past that had hardware specs far lower than it and I was much happier with them because they worked. May not have been the fastest tricycle on the block but they worked and that is what counts for me.

So.......your post sounds good. Now if some one can post on the GPS it will be the decider on this phone.
How fast does it get a lock? and is it accurate?

GPS lock on will depend on the signal in the areas you roam.

I am with Talkmobile (Vodafone UK) and they have a signal strength map on their web site. For home and work (17 miles apart) it shows good to above average signal but in reality its excellent at work but useless at home. Virtually no GPS whatsoever here.

I must say though at work, which was my main criteria for having GPS, it is very good and locked on all day. This saves me using my works comp for monitoring and sending personal emails.

As for the phone, my first bar type with GPS/WiFi etc, I like some aspects and hate others. My main hate being the dissapearing screen when phoning and the swipe acceptance of a call. But other functions, email, text, wifi I do like.

Disappearing screen? Can you explain this.
The Samsung Galaxy Precedents screen goes black when you talk and you have to use the power button to bring it back because the phone does not have a proximity sensor. But Phone Arena says this phone has a PS.
Also I remembered another important thing. The Google Voice app needs to work on this.
I had a ZTE Score from Cricket. Specs were very close in most respects to the Ace. It ran Android 2.3.4 and there is a known issue between GV and Android 2.3.4 and that phone had it. You could go to the market and find the app on a PC or any other phone, but with the Score, the app wold not show in the market. Also people who had the app installed on 2.2 and then upgraded the os t. 2.3.4 had broken apps, missing apps. I could never get the app to even show from the market to install it.
So do we know if this app works with the 2.3 install. I already know it works with 2.2.
Reviews on Amazon show that the phone is listed as coming with 2.2 but sometimes comes with 2.3? 2.3.5 and higher work with GV, it is just 2.3.4 that has the problem.

Wanted to thank everyone for their input.
I read other reviews on the phone and they stared getting pretty mixed. Started to remind me of another phones issues.
I have decided to stay with my current phone and just have Google Voice handle all incoming calls and purchase a separate GPS device that can be used in my Work Van and Personal Truck.

My Views:

- Very Less battery backup
- Bad screen resolution
- Very slow after installing some Apps
- Very slow to play games like angry birds - Play it in a better phone - you will find the difference
- Not possible to install many apps because of less phone memory

I heard it is possible to get rid of these problems by rooting. Galaxy Ace is a phone for those techies who has lot of time to root and customize the phone, not for regular users and gamers.
