Netflix

Not likely. Netflix is still in negotiations with their mobile app developer, so they haven't released an official streaming app yet. It's on the way, but it might be a while before it's good to go.

Streaming from the website doesn't work either, even with flash, because they require a microsoft plugin to play their video. I don't see that being available on android anytime soon.

I can't imagine Video Streaming on 3G is going to be much fun, anyway. I would think you would almost have to run it on a WiFi connection to be happy with it.

But I may be overly negative about the limits of 3G. Its pretty crappy in many parts of my coverage area, so I don't know if its a "3G thing" or "Barely 3G because we're reluctant to replace the old, outdated, crappy equipment in the network thing"

From what i could see from netflix even with froyo its needs windows or mac operating systems and firefox did not help either. /it's ok if you need to use wifi as an option. it would still be great to have this function. This is why apple iphone is the best. There's nothing it can't do. my carrier does not have iphone] Also Mezmorize does not have a camera in front for VOP and video communications. What's with these phone makers? They don't get it. Motorola is not available with my carrier either- us cell. Motorola is the best droid so far and has front and rear camera.

There is a lot the iPhone won't do, either, so be careful when you start slinging the gold plating around.

I've had an iPod Touch for a couple of years, and its update to the i4 platform. Doesn't have video chat capability because its older generation, but it does the rest. Its got its issues, too.

Choosing a smartphone platform these days is about what functionality is important to you. If you want a basic smartphone that is already set up for you and your choices for customization are limited to the pre-selected apps you're allowed to pick from, choose an iPhone/iPod. If you want more control over how your phone works for you, and don't mind that it isn't quite as "finished" as the iOS, Android is a good choice for you.

Basically, if you don't have a 4G phone, Netflix isn't going to work. Did I read that wrong?

I think it has to do more with Gingerbread versus 4G, since it is running on the Droid 1 with any of the Gingerbread ROM's.

On the EPIC, I have only seen instances of it running with a leaked Gingerbread ROM as well...
