Help network or phone problem?

hi there,
with my galaxy S, even if i have 2 or so bars of reception, sometimes the internet wont load web pages "network error occured" or something similar. also, my phone decides when it wants to update things like emails and all that stuff.. is this a galaxy S problem, a my phone problem or optus's problem?

Is this consistent whether you are on cellular network and wifi?

If it only happens on cellular then your network is probably rubbish.

If it happens even in healthy proven wifi connection then there could be a problem with whatever softwares/app that you are using.
