New Android Trojan Found in Google Play

FakeLookout.A is a trojan hidden in an app named "Updates" by Good Byte Labs and was "designed to look like an update to the Lookout mobile security application," the security vendor said. TrustGo Security Labs discovered the virus in a package named com.updateszxt found in Google's online app marketplace.

I've tried both and IMO, I think avast is.

I’ve been androiding for almost two years and have never seen any actual hard evidence of viruses. But seeing the article I posted makes me wonder if I have to make some space for protection... probably Avast, cuz it’s already on my PC.

Nothing to worry about. This malware app will not just magically appear all by itself, it must be installed by the user. Also, it has been removed from the Play Store so unless you install apps from shady sites you have no risk.

Extremely unlikely that Avast or similar apps would have offered any protection in this case.

Despite the use of the term 'virus' by the incredibly lame PC Mag, it is definitely NOT a virus. Repeat, it is NOT a virus. It's a malware app. There are NO Android viruses. NONE. This is a critically important distinction and PC Mag should be spanked for using incorrect terminology.
