New android user with lots of questions

Lurker
I am new to android (long-time iPhone user). I love my galaxy s5 however I can't seem to avoid accidentally moving icons and widgets on my home screen while the phone is bouncing around in my pocket or purse. Is there a way to either reduce the touch sensitivity or lock the home screen layout?

Another problem I'm having is with the camera. I don't know what setting to change it get it to not only focus better but also take photos faster.

I also can't seem to get the "smart stay" function to work properly. It is constantly turning the display off after about 5 seconds of inactivity --sometimes I'm just reading something long and need the screen to remain on.

Another issue I am having is with the svoice. This may be because I am misunderstood about its functions but I was under the impression that I could simply ask the phone to "wake up" and S - voice would respond. Is this true or do I need to just stick with doing a double click on the home button?

Next I need to know how to better the performance of the phone. I have it on power saving mode (ultra is too restrictive for me) but the battery still drains super fast. Not to mention the phone is painfully slow. Any tips?

Last question I promise... when I had my iPhone I could hit play on a video, on any site and turn my phone to landscape and the video would fill my screen. I'm finding that this does not occur with my android. If there is a video embedded on a site (blog or something similar) I turn the phone to landscape and the page follows but the video won't fill the screen. I can still see the border of the website rather than just the video. I don't know if this makes sense. If you need further clarification I can try to explain with examples.

Any help anyone on this forum could provide me is greatly appreciated.

Moved your post to the S5 section for proper help and support

OK.. the first one.. i am in agreeance with you.. when i have my phone in my pocket.. the home button gets pressed.. and it opens up.. one thing you can do.. is set it to lock when you press the power button. so.. even if its in your purse.. and the home button is pushed.. it goes to the lock screen. and it wont move your icons..

camera, there is a new update out there.. that speeds up the camera as i understand it.. see if your phone needs an update.

smart stay.. has been an issue for many.. i dont personally use it.. but.. seems to work better.. if the phone is closer to your face.. bout 12" or so.. farther away.. is very unreliable. another thing.. u can set the time up for longer than 5 seconds.

try using "hi galaxy" but i think there is an issue with svoice.. i personally dont use svoice. i use "hey google"

for power.. here are some ideas..
Turn off touch key lights
Black out your lock screen
Turn off Motions and Gestures, Air view
good thread also to help out.. http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-s5/846871-want-improve-battery-life-heres-how.html

for videos.. there are certain times on websites.. it doesnt open up a video player.. i dont know what can be done for that.. maybe long press the video.. and open in a new window.. see if it will give you the option for youtube.. or video app.

Welcome to Android. I know the switch can be uncomfortable, but with a little research and tweaking, it should be much less so.

I would recommend the search function on these forums. You've got a lot of very different questions, and all of them have been extensively discussed in separate threads.

Yes, just about anything you need to find out, has already been discussed.
To help you find answers faster than waiting for a response, use Google's Advanced Search feature.

Click here => Google Advanced Search

In the first input line, enter the least number of words to describe what you want to find.

Now, scroll down a bit and find Domain:

Enter this line exactly:
Copy this => Samsung Galaxy S5 - Android Forums

Now you can click on Search....

What did that Domain line do? It restricted Google's searches to Only This Sub-Forum and no where else. That prevents you from getting a lot of advertisements and stuff from else where.

Google Advanced Search is a tool that I make use of extensively. I use it on every forum I read to find things in a hurry related to that forum only.
