New AT&T Captivate User Needs Basics

Thanks for your time. I'm trying to setup my captivate for the first time and its tasking me. I use MS Outlook 2010 and Time Warner for Roadrunner email. I want to sync Outlook email, calendar, contacts and tasks for starters. I'd like to understand rooting and why that's important and anything else a newbie like me should know to get the most out of this awesome device. THANKS!!

Rooting an Android phone is similar to Jailbreaking an iPhone. The Android OS is based on the kernel of the Linux operating system. In Linux to get system access you need to become a SuperUser (SU). In Android you get SU status by rooting your phone. For more info on rooting try
