New AT&T update available

Well, I did it.

I downloaded the manual update from HTC, connected my phone, and in about ten minutes I had the new software!

And...

IT COMPLETELY WIPED MY PHONE!! LOL

I knew it might happen, but I took a chance because it seemed like the only way to get the update.

So now I'm off to set everything up all over again with my (almost) brand new phone...

:):( I don't know whether to laugh or cry... but be WARNED!!

Well it's not so bad... I already have my contacts, pics, and music back and working on getting most of my apps re-installed.

(This actually forced me to delete a lot of crap that I never use anyway... ;))

I've already noticed significant improvement in WiFi performance and having the option to get rid of the 3-dot menu bar is awesome!!

So I'm actually glad I did it... YMMV. :p

Just tested speedtest.net:

37.78Mbps down, 3.88Mbps up over WiFi at work! (Not sure why down is so much better than up)

I won't even bother to test on AT&T's signal right now because I can barely get reception here...

OK right away this is what I've noticed:

Browser is smoother
New top bar in browser
...

Is the 'Quick Settings' tab back when you pull down the notification bar? (Might be in the next update, or may have been a ROM addition that multiple blogs published was part of this official update?)

I'm curious about the new top bar in the stock browser.
Can you elaborate more possibly?
This is the best photo of any difference I can find

A relocated Tab button. Anything else to it? I've been hoping HTC would create a way to get to the notification shade when in the browser, while not having the annoying bar there all the time wasting space.

I finally clicked install now as I kept pushing it back 8 hours. The phone rebooted into TWRP. Instead of installing the update (figured it would fail anyway) I just clicked reboot system. Have not seen the nag for a few days now.

yes....just the new brower top bar not the actual notification bar.

ATT one x updated OTA and my phone isnt running as well with this new update. Stock messaging refuses to work correctly, just gives a loading message screen but never finishes the job. Overall phone performance not as fast, probably going to reset it.

That is frustrating.
Did you have a high volume of messages? Like in the thousands? (You'll have to guesstimate - too bad with Sense 4 HTC got rid of the message count that used to show in older versions)

The HTC Evo 3D just received the update to Ice Cream Sandwich and Sense 3.6 recently. A couple of users, with thousands of messages, found that if they leave the Messages Application on the Loading screen for a long period of time eventually the application will load up all the old messages or at least let you back into messages, it just takes a long time. It might work for you, it might not, since this is a different version of Sense and Different Messaging application (though all built on roughly the same framework I'd guess). Might be unrelated and off base, just an idea I thought to toss out there for you.

Also next time, inside the Message application in the menu, there is an option to back up messages and restore messages. It is one of my favorite new features in Sense 4 and helps you avoid the loss/time wasted. ;)

thanks for the suggestions, Im going to play around with it today to see if I can get it working before resetting the phone

Yeah, resetting should clear the performance hangs but you will loose all messages and other data. I've gotten into the habit of backing up data beforehand and doing a reset after every update automatically, just to clean the slate.

I'd love to know if you figure anything out with the Messages (one guy left his Messages open for 3 hours to clear it up!). Especially if this same annoyance carried over from older software models to the newer models and across phone carriers. :(

the only solution I found besides resetting the phone was to delete message threads, I did have thousands on my phone that refused to open so I just deleted them. I backed them up before hand but havent tried to restore them yet. Still I believe my phone ran slightly better before the update...Some things are faster, others slower

I finally did it the manual method. Wasn't too bad. It actually didn't erase my music files and some other stuff I had downloaded by web. I just had to setup my homescreens again and re-download my apps.

Hope future updates come OTA.

So I am hanging onto my SIII because of the speed and response of the phone and the awsome battery life. however I want to go back to a One X and am wondering if the update makes the phone any faster and better battery life? I really miss the Sense Ui but really want the fast speed.

updated my phone to 2.20 the day i got it (probably shouldnt have since theres no root for it...) but the battery life is great on it, ill vouch for that.

I've been trying to update my One X for days. I have the AT&T version. I got to 'check for update', click on the button, it says 'checking for update' loads for a minute, then goes back to 'check for updates'. It just stays in that loop. Doesn't tell me I have to wait to check again, obviously doesn't download anything or doesn't even say no update available (which I know there is).

ANy ideas?

Mine is doing the same thing. I really don't want to have to re download all my apps and whatnot, so I hope there's some way I can do it OTA

You might have better luck with some in depth research but I spent about a week looking at various forums, including HTCs and tried everything suggested. In the end, the only option was the manual method.

It's not too bad really. I've already got everything I had on there before.

As for the update, I do find it faster. The multi-tasking works better too and I love the fact you can customize the button for menu option.

Battery life IMO hasn't improved. I'm getting 10-12 hours tops on a full charge.

This button for menu option, is it the black bar with 3 white dots (or little squares) at the bottom of the screen?
Where is it you can customize it, I can't find it? :o

On my side I feel the update is a plus, it is a tiny bit faster (but noticeable), I haven't had a single crash this week, before I used to have a crash almost everyday. Battery life is better, but it can be because I did a manual update and haven't reinstalled all the apps, only those I really need/use.

The update sounds good but I guess what i want to know if anyone has or has had both the One X and SIII does this update bring it closer to the speed of the SIII. Any help would be appriciated I as I still can't decide which is better with speed.

Iirc, it's Settings -> Display & Gestures to change it. Although it might be different on the AT&T version.

Yeah must be different on AT&T phones, I don't see anything there or elsewhere in the settings about this button :(

Yes that button, its 3 squares stacked on top of each other.

Go to Settings, Display/Gestures/Buttons, Recent apps button.

Ahah, thanks that's it!
Cool stuff :)
For some reason I thought that 'recent apps' button was the 'Frequent' button...
