Help New Atrix - Numerous Questions

I just got my Atrix last night. Sweet phone so far. I'm trying to configure many basic functions and not finding them. I'm hoping the community can give me a clue on how to configure a number of things:

1) Ringtones - I'd like to set ringtones for some individuals. I can't find any way to assign a Ringtone to an individual. The help system says it should be a selection in the Contacts but it is not there.

2) Ringtones for a group - I'd like to create a group like "Friends" and set a Ringtone to the whole group. I can create the group, but I can't find any way to Add contacts to that group or edit the properties of the group to assign a Ringtone to it. All I can do is filter by that group, which of course gives nobody since I can't find how to assign to it.

3) Contact order - The Contacts display as First Name Last Name. I'd like to display the other way, Last Name First Name. Can't find how to change the display order

4) Notification LED - I have the configuration set to turn on the LED, but it never turns on. I receives Texts, Messages, Gtalk, yet the LED never blinks? Is there more to it? I've also read that someone has the LED blinking with different colors depending on what was received. Anyone know how to do this?

5) I would like to put a shortcut on my screen to go directly to my primary mailbox. The Messaging shortcut takes me to a screen to select which messaging box to look at (Universal, Gmail, Corporate). That's an extra tap. Any way to go direct to my Corporate Inbox from the home screen?

6) Default out of the box there is a nice small widget on the screen to the right of home that appears to be a small form of the Motorola Widgets -> Contact quick tasks. It is only 1 square in size and you can assign a single contact's phone number to it. I can't seem to create more of those. When I put the Contact quick tasks widget on the screen it give a much bigger version that give a big photo and 2 quick tasks for the contact. How do I configure it to only get the small form?

7) Screen Dim - I'd like the screen to go dim after say 30 seconds to save battery, yet wake up when I touch it. Still having the screen lock set to 10 minutes or so. All I can get it to do is tie the screen illumination to the screen lock time. Is there a way to seperate these two functions or an app that will do this?

Thanks for any insights,

Joel

Joel,

Open the contact, make sure you are on the middle screen (by default there seems to be three, and you should automatically come in to the middle screen). Look to the top right and you should see three small circles. The one in the center should be red and the other two white empty circles. Now, click on the menu button (hard button lower left) and choose "EDIT". Now scroll down until you see "ADDITIONAL INFO" and tap it.

Now scroll down until yo see "RINGTONE"...it should say "NO RINGTONE SPECIFIED". Tap that and you will figure out the rest.

Do you have the LED indicator in in your apps individual settings?

ie., the messaging app has an option to turn it on.

As for changing the color, I havn't found a way to that.

The GO SMS app offers an option to change the color. Currently I have the standard green going for emails and other notifications, and blue for SMS messages.

It's sweet :)

K-9 Mail allows you to set different colors for LED...though only for the app as a whole, not per account, if I am not mistaken. The LED should light on receipt of new mail by default, as long as the screen is "off". Just check the "Settings" on a per account basis, and from the Unified inbox as well. Notification settings can be set individually for Texting, and the GMail app.

The free app AnyCut will allow you to create shortcuts for any app, or "Activity".

Add it to the screen, then press-hold until it flashes, then release. There should be a white box around the widget with an arrow at each corner. Hold/drag the arrow to resize.

Wow, you guys are awesome. Great quick responses. Here's what I found:

1) Marc - Thanks, that got it. For some reason when I tried that earlier I saw no expansion below the Additional Info. Working now. Sweet.

4) The Messaging App has an option to turn on Notification in the Status Bar but I don't see an option for the LED.

Does the LED only blink when the screen is off? I've got it going for some apps now but once I turn on the screen the LED goes away. Is this normal?

5) I'll try AnyCut, thanks for the tip

6) Sweet, that did it. Need to set only one selection when creating the widget than reduce the size to single and it works great. Less than intuitive but works great. Thanks !

Anyone know how to deal with #3 and #6?

Thanks to all,

Joel

Anyone know how to configure AnyCut to launch a specific mailbox within Messaging? It is not at all obvious how to configure this program to do much beyond what we can already generate shortcuts for natively.

Thanks,

Joel

I stumbled across this by accident. Press and hold the contact on that widget and it will light up with the "arrows" like making a broswer window bigger. Just pull the lower line down to extend the box. Now I can either call my wife or text here just by hitting the correct box in that widget. I also made it big enough to be able to email her with just a quick tap. Hope that helps.

LauncherPro lets you put a shortcut to any item in Messaging on the desktop - along with many other desktop enhancements. It also lets you create shortcuts to contacts.
