New browser app - pls advise!

Hi all
We are a new mobile company and we released a new browser to the play-store, it's based on the FF13 native and it's extremely fast and easy to use, you can also sync it with the FF from other devices.

Besides the different design, of course we are going to add many features - we are thinking about ad-blocker, changing the menu to a bottom toolbar menu and so....

pls throw ideas about making the browser better, I see many good posts and threads here and hope its a good place to get some genuine help

spearmint browser - pls ignore the current version and share you advises:thumbup:
 
ok... first thing. logically, first thing should be a short wizard to configure it. ie choose default search engine, and override locations, default homepage. etc.

I am in switzerland and i dont know much german (french or english ok), but EVERY bloody website and browser defaults to German; by IP address i guess? so i am floundering from the start.


Now i have to fish around to try and work out how to change default search engine, and location if its even possible.
 
ps... it is quick :-) - on the positive side!

further notes Notes: Google is defaulting to tablet view for some reason.
now i selected Classic view and, hang on, the middle screen search bar has gone, whilst i was typing and its now moved to the top of the screen. Weird - my entry is not visible any more, i still see the centre of the view with the bar now out of view at the top. Telling me now "Google instant is unavailable. Learn more. (this is a process i have to repeat each time - needs fixing)
Not sure if this is a function of your browser?

Checked settings - checked the reflow text box, but its not reflowing. I am zoomed in on a google search result. Have rebooted the app, it has not made any difference.

Maybe you have a partial reflow option like Dolphin?

Ok enough for now, i have some work to do... will continue using and will feedback more... Hope it helps :-)
 
Thanks so much for the feedbacks - tomorrow I'm launching version2 - I'll work on fixing google's default to mobile.. it'll be much faster and many of the bugs will be fixed. the new V should be in the play store tomorrow night so if you can hold you low ratings until you check it out pls do!

keep in mind that Ad-block will be implemented to the next version - do you think it a necessary add on?

For the google issue, which device are u using?
 
will check back tomorrow for the latest version. And advise. Pleased to help. Am a "power user" of website and email systems, so its great to be able to feedback directly like this. Do you dev other software or apps??
 
i can tell u a great feature which i have not seen before... which i always long for with a mobile app... It's when you are selecting from a pulldown with 100's of choices (eg countries), in a desktop browser theres the slidebar which appears. THis is duplicated by the touch screen on a cellbrowser, but its very clumsy. In fact on DT browser you can usually type the first letters of your selection to get there fast. a pop up of the kb would be great in this regard and / or slide bar. eg on my website here - http://http://machines-used.com you can see Browse Category, as example.
 
it would also be nice when zooming that it would render the text without side to side moving of the page as opera mobile will do. all things take time youve done a good job

Yes i think you mean reflow? I've mentioned it above, its an option in the settings, but im not sure its working yet. Will check V2 which is due out today.

And i agree, good job!! And thanks for directly involving us.
 
ok.

Love the "fresh" interface. Very nice clean and simple.

Problems/limitations, which render it all but useless as a daily browser for me:

1) the search only lists 1 page of results
2) no apparent way to change the location settings, or default search engine and its parameters/settings (is it google based? there is an addon for google listed in the addons section), or restrict languages; am being given german sites by default because i am in switzerland.
3) the initial page when loading seems to offer some firefox integration with search bar in the middle of screen. The text input for this is almost white on a white background. And the search magnifying glass icon does not work.
4) I did a search, and it showed text results, then clicked to see image results, now, even though i have selected "web" again, it keeps defaulting to "images" for each new search.
5) zooming in on rogerebert.com results in white screen only. Ie no display.

Questions:

1) Text reflow?

Let me know your comments on the above and if you would like me to check anything further specifically.

Am using galaxy note n7000

the search issues will be fixed tuesday due to other priorities, I forwarded all of the comments to the tech team and they'll see what can be done and how fast... (we have limited programmers..)

overall do you see the increase of speed? the adjusting speed dial page? let me know what we should keep for V3

checking latest version. Needs to have option to paginate results. Still only one page.

NP. Not sure what you mean by URL fixer addon
ref name/icon . not sure what you mean either :-( - change your corporate image from spearmint? Personally i would wait to get the browser code working 95% right then look to relaunch with a new image.

Further points... when selecting links, it does not seem to respond well. I am not sure if there is a "zone" you can program which extends outside the links, but i am certainly finding it hard to click on links within sites. Other browsers are much more responsive. I have to zoom right in to select links. For me then:

1) solve the pagination issue for searches (ie currently only one page)
2) improve link sensitivity

then i can use it again for daily use.

2) as for the link, yes its a problem... thanks for letting me know we will fix it ASAP as well, hopefully this week

If anyone has cool ideas for names to change spearmint - let me know
