New Droid X User.

I just got my new Droid X phone this evening and I have tried to lock my phone so that it does not just unlock by sliding but instead asks to enter a password to unlock. Can anyone please give me detailed instructions on how to setup my phone so that I have to enter a password to unlock my phone and prevent unauthorized users from using my phone? Thank you.

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Go to App Drawer... Settings ... Location & Security...

Under the heading "Security" you should see two entries:
1. Set up screen lock
2. Security lock timer

Under setup screen lock you should see entries relating to the type of security you want to implement. Based on your description it sounds like you would likely want to use PIN or Password security.

Caveat: what I described is based on my Droid X running Android 2.2. Your phone should be the same but given that we're talking Verizon here anything is possible. Before setting a lock make sure you know exactly what your pin/password will be. If you forget it you might be able to over-ride it with your Gmail username and password. Otherwise removing a forgotton lock will quite possible require a factory reset of the phone.
